The Swiss Alps / Valais/Swiss Alps region
A wonderful region which will pull you back again and again.
Very family friendly, local amenities in Nendaz and nearby includes access to miles and miles of marked walks (bisses) and mountain bike trails rated according to length and difficulty and always leading to terrific mountain restaurants, football, tennis, outdoor heated swimming pool with spectacular views, golf courses, horse riding, fishing, climbing, the spa at Ovronnaz at over 5,000ft is wonderful, summer outdoor markets, great shops and supermarkets, not to mention the historical castle and battlements overlooking the wonderful busy town of Sion , the Roman amphitheatre in Martigny is worth a visit and many, many more places to visit such as Chamonix, Montreaux, the Matterhorn, the Eiger, etc .......
All of the above and we haven't even mentioned the Mont Fort and 4 Valley skiiing area, which is Switzerland's largest and one of only a few select areas worldwide that is allocated 5 stars for excellence.

Switzerland is train mad and makes it as attractive as possible to get people out of their cars and on to trains. Therefore there are great deals and offers to be had. Check out the Swiss Railways SBB web site but in brief you can get half price or unlimited travel during 3 days out of 30 etc. definitely worth thinking about if you plan on doing a trip to Zermatt or to the lake etc.
Nendaz area
Friendly people, spectacular scenery, regular festivals throughout summer and winter, waterslide parks within 40 minutes drive, vineyards, apricot trees, Italy and France at either end of the valley, the Eiger, Matterhorn, Mont Blanc, longest glacier, largest underground lake in Europe, spas at 5,000ft, trains to Milan, Geneva, etc ...., great road system.
Sion is the sunniest city in Switzerland with guaranteed historical sunshine of 300 days each year, minimum.
Please enquire for more specific details of local places to visit, activities, attractions and details of festivals in the area.
How to get there
How to get to Nendaz?
Getting to Nendaz is easy from just about anywhere in Europe. It can be reached either from the west via Geneva/Lausanne and Grand St Bernard, the north via the Lötschbergtunnel or the east via the Simplon pass/tunnel. The final road up to Nendaz is a major route, has few nasty hairpins (last count only 12 in total) and is on the whole of gentle gradient and kept clear of snow.
By plane:
Geneva airport is the closest major airport (BA, Swiss, EasyJet etc.) and about 1hr 45m away from Nendaz. Sion Airport which is only 15mins drive from the Chalet has a Winter Schedule from London (Saturdays only) with Swiss from City Airport. In theory this means London house /Chalet door to door in 4.5 hours.
Then either hire a car at airport (many options, we have found Avis / Eurocar to be the cheapest) or take train to Sion straight from Geneva Airport, 2 fast trains per hour which connect with the yellow Postal Bus (space # 6 in front of station) straight to Nendaz, there are 20 Postal Buses per day to Nendaz from Sion
Taxi: You can get a taxi from Sion train station or Airport or from Nendaz centre up to the Chalet, just be sure to call a few hours in advance or at least when getting on the Postal Bus if during the peak season. For Sion Taxis call +41 (0) 27 322 32 32 or Mattei Taxis +41 (0)27 203 52 52
For Nendaz call Taxi Praz +41 (0)79 409 32 15
By Train:
Sion is on the main line between Milan and Geneva/Lausanne and most trains stop there. Each hour there are several express and local trains in both directions. The Sion – Nendaz Postal Bus (space # 6 in front of train station) connects with all major train services and takes 25 minutes to the Nendaz Telecabine station. See http://www.sbb.ch/en/index.htm for timetable and connections.

Further details indoors: Entering from the rear (upper) garden off a private road, the entrance hall and cloakroom lead into a large open plan sitting/dining room and fully fitted kitchen, with windows and balconies on three sides offering stunning views over Sion, Veysonnaz, Crans Montana and the Rhone Valley.
For those that must be outdoors at all times, at one end of the balcony there is also a large sheltered external sitting area with a table that will take 8/10 people comfortably.
There is a separate WC with wash-hand basin upstairs off the entrance hallway.
The top floor is largely comprised of an open plan sitting/dining room and kitchen. A large extended corner sofa, Satellite TV, DVD and CD make up the seating area, with a wood burning stove adding extra cosiness.
French windows open onto a very large front facing balcony.
The dining area seats six, with the table extending to accommodate more if required. The kitchen is fully equipped and includes fridge, dishwasher, Italian espresso coffee making machine, electric hob and microwave oven amongst other items.
The marble staircase leads down to the lower floor. Downstairs is comprised of 3 good size bedrooms, bathroom, washing machine and linen cupboard.
Bedroom 1 has a comfortable queen sized bed (can be two singles if required) with fully shuttered french windows opening onto the front facing garden.
Bedroom 2 is a large twin, with front facing windows on to the garden.
Bedroom 3 is a further good sized room with a double bed. The bathroom has a WC, sink and bath with powerful shower.
All bedrooms have large built-in wardrobes for storage.
Access to the large garage and parking places is from either upstairs or downstairs entrances/exits. Downstairs has its own access to the front facing garden.
The garage has a 'wet' area for skis and boots. A centrally located upstairs storage heater system warms the chalet on cold winter nights. Separate electric heating is also fitted throughout the accommodation.
Further details outdoors: The resort of Haute-Nendaz is directly above the old village of Basse-Nendaz, which is itself above Sion in the valley. The resort is situated on a sunny plateau/terrace at between 1300m and 1500m, it has panoramic views of the Bernese and Vaud Alps. In winter it forms part of the 4-Vallées, one of the most extensive ski areas in Europe and by far the largest in Switzerland.
On the back of the Nendaz (Tracouet) mountain are a large number of superb 1000 year old larch trees on the Prarion slopes (locals claim that some even date to BC). Considering the height and weather extremes they have faced, these trees are quite extraordinary and walking past them in summer or skiing in winter adds a sense of dimension to the experience.
Location applies equally well in the mountains if not more so. Nendaz came out as a winner for us for the following reasons:
- Easy access from Geneva Airport with its many regular and cheap flights - Public transport access without car (very rare in the French / Swiss Alps) - Close enough to enable long weekends - Central to other attractions and days out (i.e. Milan, Geneva, Bern, Zermatt, Chamonix, Lausanne, Montreux, Wengen, Davos, etc ........) - Significant local Nendaz population of over 5,000 - this compares with only 2,200 in Verbier. - an all year resort where you can always get a croissant, good nosh and beer even out of season! - Great views, in fact they are truly stunning! - Not too high for it to be barren and freezing but high enough to ensure snow cover in winter - Great skiing on and off piste (in this case the largest area in Switzerland) - Culturally Swiss - Language Swiss-French rather than Swiss-German (Latin approach to life) - Ideal for local wine tasting and visits to spas (spa in Ovronnaz is particularly spectacular) - Great walks, cycling, swimming, golfing and sports facilities in summer - Guaranteed hot and sunny weather during summer months - Outdoor swimming pool with spectacular views - Close to Swiss, Italian and French (Annecy) Lakes

Many thanks we had a great time. Restaurant at Mont Rouge was great. Regards Sue & Barrie Hollands =======================================================================
Thank you so much as we had the most wonderful week! What a cosy and comfortable chalet you have!! I have been raving about it to everyone and we have already decided we'll be going back to Nendaz next year. Maybe a week or two later so all the slopes are open. We fell in love with Sion and Nendaz! The view (how beautiful and breathtaking!), the friendly townsfolk, being so comfortable, made the trip the best I have had in a while!
Thanks again!!
Kind regards,

Just a few words to let you know that we had a great holiday! Comfortable chalet, snow on Sunday, dry and clear weather for the rest of the week, with blue skies from Tuesday on. We had never seen such an amount of snow all around. Scenic views from the balcony of Campanella were a delight.
Kind regards,
Marie-Paule Delcour
