The Swiss Alps region

The mountain village of Nendaz is situated in the heart of the Valais ( french speaking ) canton of Switzerland. The "capital" of the canton is Sion, the oldest city in Switzerland, only half an hour's drive down the mountain.

With the 4 Valleys area on our doorstep, Nendaz is the gateway to hundreds of kilometres of on and off piste routes and one of the largest ski areas in the Europe. Internationally famous and renowned for it's snow record and variety, the 4 Vallees satisfies all types of skiers, whether you are a first time skier or advanced - on piste or off piste. The resorts of Verbier, Veysonnaz, Thyon and La Tzoumaz are all connected to Nendaz via Siviez. A brand new high speed chair opens in December 2013 in Siviez offering further speedy access to the whole 4 valleys region.

Nendaz

Unlike most ski resorts, Nendaz and the surrounding area is an all year round resort. From mountain biking or walking on the high alpine passes, through to relaxing by the open air pool or one of the many spas in the area, or exploring the many local vineyards, there is something for all the family throughout the year.

Nendaz has several ski schools which cater for all levels including those looking for off piste/guiding. If you are not a skier, why not try snow-shoeing, which is increasingly popular and the village can provide the equipment and the routes around the local area, offering a wonderful opportunity to admire the stunning scenery. There is a full size, outdoor ice rink in the village and husky rides, snow cat experiences and much, much more.

Nendaz has been awarded the prestigious "Families Welcome" award which ensures a very high level of activities for children including child minding facilities, playgrounds and walks suitable for push chairs as well as a programme of events specifically designed for children of all ages, throughout the year.

"Lovely Chalet in Great Location"

We have now stayed at Chalet Belle Poncke half a dozen times and so I thought it was about time I got round to writing a review following our last visit. We have stayed at the chalet in both summer and winter and have always been delighted with the chalet and its location. CBP has a very homely feel with lots of touches which make you feel especially relaxed. The beds are very comfortable and the bed linen and towels good quality. The open plan kitchen/dining/living area is lovely and ensures that who-ever is on cooking duty isn't cut off from the rest of the party. This area opens up onto a large terrace which is a real sun trap in summer. CBP is a short walk (c15/20 minutes), or very short car drive, from Nendaz village which has a really good selection of bars, cafes, restaurants, supermarkets and shops. The main cable car in Nendaz is open in the summer so you can easily get up the mountain for hiking/mountain biking etc. Alternatively you can drive to Siviez for more options to go up the mountain. In winter the ski area is huge and caters for every level of skier. I tried snow-shoeing on my last winter visit, which was fantastic. Summer or winter there is always lots to do in the area. The medieval town of Sion is just down the mountain and well worth a visit. Its clear to see that the owners of CBP take pride in it being a home from home for parties who rent it out, and I would highly recommend it.
