The Limerick/Tipperary region

Limerick city at just under 1 hours drive away is the historic home of King John's Castle which is a must see for anyone interested in the history of Ireland. There are regular guided tours, a video describing the history and a shop to purchase souvenirs and preserves. The added advantage of visiting the castle is that it is located conveniently to take a look at Limerick city itself and enjoy the variety of shops, restaurants and traditional pubs.

Another historical experience is the Bunratty Folk Park just outside Limerick. The most complete medieval fortress in Ireland and where 19th century life is recreated. This is a great day out and one to include on the list.

Galway city is just over an hour away and it is a very lively and vibrant city, famous for its music which is evident throughout ! There are some great shops, with specialities including Connemara woollen goods and celtic jewellery. Don't miss the regular artisan craft and food street market on Saturdays.

There are many other places of interest more locally such as Terryglass, Portumna and Dromineer all of which are on the lake shore and many water sports are available from these with Portumna offering a wider range of facilities such as golf.

There are many festivals and events throughout the year in this region ranging from horse racing and the oyster festival at Galway to the annual Terryglass arts festival. Dromineer hosts numerous yacht and boating events.

There is a wealth of information available on the internet to get the most out of your holiday in Tipperary unless you simply want a peaceful retreat in the heart of the gorgeous countryside - the choice is yours !

Nenagh

10 miles away is the historic market town of Nenagh. The Anglo-Norman castle has been recently restored and well worth visiting together with the Nenagh Heritage museum found in the former county gaol.

View Trip Advisor for further info on this, Nenagh Walking Tour as well as other places of interest.

Take a walk up Kenyon St for a shopping expedition. Enjoy the many cafes and try the local restaurants, or bar hop along it's interesting pubs and finish off with a trip to the cinema.Look at for plays etc performed at the local Arts Centre.

Golfers may like to try Nenagh Golf Course.

Don't miss the weekly Country Market held every Friday 8am - 1.30pm, where you can discover locally produced jams, chutneys, vegetables and flowers as well as home baked treats for you to try!

Nenagh is a large town with all the amenities you would expect to find such as banks and supermarkets.

"Gorgeous cozy rural cottage in a quiet natural setting"

We loved our stay at Primrose in Tipperary! It was exactly what we needed, a nice quiet time away from the city in a convenient location for exploring Ireland's lakes, landscapes and castle ruins… More

I am so glad you enjoyed your stay with us and thank you for the kind words. You certainly managed to explore the Tipperary countryside and do plenty of local sightseeing. There is no shortage of outdoor opportunity with the lake to explore using our own kayaks or canoes if you wish, plus local woodland and forest walks around every corner. We are also very fortunate with many high quality local pub/restaurants to choose from.
You are most welcome here anytime of course.

"Great Value!"

Lovely, cozy cottage in the Irish countryside. Exceptional effort made by the owners to make you feel welcome. Welcome package of food along with the provision of age appropriate games for the childre… More

Thank you for your lovely comments and I agree that to be fairly well immersed in the heart of the countryside is something special. Dividing my own time between a UK city and the countryside of Tipperary means I truly appreciate and love this special place; it is such a pleasure to have guests staying who feel the same way !
This is our first year and we are still not only learning but also building and adding to the collection of age appropriate items for children and babies too - the collection ranges from a travel cot and 'baby' toys to tricky puzzles and board games plus a range of DVDs.
It was a great privilege to have guests all the way from Canada and there will always be a welcome for you and your family here at either Primrose or Blackberry cottage.

It was a real privilege to have visitors from Australia and to be able to help trace family roots locally was a pleasure. The majority of help came from our local publican who is very enthusiastic and knows everyone !
I would like to thank you for persevering with leaving a review after much practical difficulty. We are so pleased that you liked our cottage - our aim is to deliver a high standard in every way.
We hope to welcome more visitors from across the miles and perhaps you will make another world trip and you will always have a warm welcome from us !

"Exceptional country cottage"

The cottage was exceptionally clean. The air is clean, the rental property beautiful, the surrounding villages extremely picturesque, and the lake (about 10-15 minutes drive) is beautiful. This is a great place to relax!! Alison stocked the fridge with supplies (beyond the welcome pack - which is free) on a very reasonable for-purchase basis. This makes for a very easy first night. We rated this place and the service 10 out of 10. I recommend using a GPS to find it especially if you plan to arrive in the night.

Thank you so much for your positive review ! We aim to please without being intrusive, and are delighted that you enjoyed the peace and tranquility of the area and felt comfortable in Primrose Cottage. It was lovely and an honour, to receive yet more guests from the USA and we look forward to welcoming you again at any time in the future.

"Perfect Home for our Irish Adventure"

The cottage was perfect for our family of 6. Space size, number of bathrooms, and location was exactly what we were looking for. We wanted a center location to use as a base and take day trips from - this met our needs exactly. We wanted a quiet location so that we could walk, run, and take hikes - this location was very rural and peaceful on a one lane country road with views of the Lough Dreg and pastures in the hills. Wireless Internet worked great! Pubs in the small villages were everywhere! I am glad we only spent one day in Dublin and spent the rest here. Our host and her family were excellent. Any question we had with the cottage, resturants, and the area were answered quickly.. We had a welcome package waiting for us at the cottage so there wasn't a need to run over to the grocery immediately after our long flight - this was a welcome relief. Our host also arranged for a local canoe trip for our two younger family members in the Lough Derg that went to a Castle Ruin - it was the highlight of their trip. We will recommend to our friends.

Thank you for the lovely review from our first guests in Primrose Cottage ! It was exciting for us to have visitors from USA and we are delighted that you found the cottage well positioned for exploring and comfortable to return to at the end of the day.
We would love to welcome you back anytime !
