The South Island region
The Ruby Bay area of Tasman South Island New Zealand has more sunshine hours than the whole of NZ. Come between December and April and you are sure of sunshine. Mapua has its own Brewery, award winning restaurants, great pubs, Art and craft shops and studios. Nelson is the Arts caplital of NZ. which is reflected in Mapua. We are a short drive from 3 world famous National Parks and the most up and coming wine region in the South Island.
Mapau (meaning abundance in Maori) has been settled since the 13th Century and was Utopia for the early European settlers. Mapua was a busy Wharf loading Apples for export round the world by 1948 more than half amillion cases of apples loaded here. In 1976 saw the last of the shipping companies to pull out of Mapua.
Just one of the Mapua wharf attractions is the Smokehouse (smoked fish and a fish &chip shop) listed in the lonely planet.
It is now a quaint holiday village with everythng you need for a great holiday.
