About the home
The Bungalow is very clean and comfortable offering relief and tranquility to the weary traveller. Situated just 20 minutes from the Katanayake airport you can be settled in, showered, changed, and enjoying a meal within a couple of hours of collecting your luggage at the airport.
The Bungalow is situated within its own delightful walled garden with Coconut trees, Banana Trees, and Papaya etc.
No more than 1 minutes walk to the Beach, Nearby Hotels and restaurants. Pool facilities etc are available for just a nominal charge. Eating out is very cheap, either at the Hotels, or one of the local, colourful restaurants which are paradise for the lover of sea food, and for the adventurous who can sample the delights of the Sri lankan curry dishes.
We recommend taking several days to rest and explore the locale, and then plan a 2/3 day trip away, which can be flexibly planned to suit yourselves, followed again by a few days back 'home'

Negombo, being centrally located on the West Coast makes it ideally situated for the many diverse trips which can be arranged for you, with our well known and trusted driver/couriers. Visitors who only base themselves in the South, face a journey of several hours to reach their destination, and then find themselves far away from the fabulous Elephant Orphanage at Pinawalla, and other favourites such as Kandy, Dambulla and Nuwara Eliya.
Being well in the tropics at about 6 degrees North, the Sea and air temperature is warm all year. Typically sea temperatures are around 28 degrees, and air temperature 28 - 35 degrees. Tropical thunderstorms with heavy rain can be experienced at various times of the year, and will often occur at the end of the afternoon.
The Negombo area
Negombo is a small provincial Town about 1 hour from Colombo. It is one of the liveliest resorts within Sri Lanka having a diverse selection of restaurants. Negombo is a fast developing place with a diversity of modern shopping facilities alongside the traditional markets and shops, where haggling is expected.
A Visit to the Fish market is a 'must'. This was featured by Rick Stein on his travels, and is open every morning except Sunday
Sunbathing on beach or poolside. There is often sufficient surf for surfboarding. There are Body boards at the bungalow.
Sea fishing trips can be arranged, where you might typically catch Barracuda.
The local Buddhist Temple is well worth a visit, rivalling the Temple of the Tooth in Kandy for splendour.
Shopping trips can be arranged into Colombo, where you can buy many items at very cheap prices, in particular clothing and luggage, bags and handbags of superb quality
White water rafting is available for the novice or the experienced, at Kitulgala on the Kilani river, which is the main film location for 'The Bridge on the River Kwai
Visits to the following places are highly recommended:
PINAWALLA, the Elephant Orphanage best arriving for the breakfast feeding time. The very young are hand fed bottles of milk.
After breakfast you will see the Trouping of the herd down to the river where they bathe, play and enjoy themselves for some time. This can be viewed from an adjacent restaurant where you enjoy all of this whilst having lunch or light refreshments
KANDY, where you can visit the Temple of the Tooth which is considered to be the bedrock of the Buddhist faith, and is home to the Tooth of the Lord Buddha. The fabulous Botanical gardens at Perideniya with its amazing variety of Trees (ie the coco de mer) and many splendours such as the colonies of Fruit Bats and Macaques.
SIGIRIYA, the ancient mountain fortress with it's 3000 year old Frescoes provides Stunning views from the top.
Sigiriya is also close to DAMBULLA, which has game reserves and Hotels set in the Jungle where diverse wildlife can be observed from the Hotel. Monkeys can come onto balconies, but can also be seen feeding in nearby shrubbery while you are taking refreshments near the poolside. Wild Elephants can sometimes be observed passing the Hotel going down to the Lake for water, and many exotic species of Birds can be seen closeby, as well as the occasional Mongoose, Giant Hare, and there are plenty of Mantis's, Geckos and bats seen around the Hotel, in the evening.
NUWARA ELIYA, nicknamed 'Little England', at 7000 feet above sea level, provides cool relief from the heat, and is worthy of a stop-over in your itinarary. You would pass through the Tea Plantations of the High country and this can be taken as a stunning Train Journey.

The property had average lounge area, the bedrooms, bathrooms and kitchen was very dated and in need of update. On a positive note the garden was lovely. If the property didn't have a live in maid(who was lovely), it would have been depressing. |

Absolutely fabulous place to stay whether it be for a couple of nights or a few weeks. Matilda and Kulan have done a fantastic job of looking after the property. Each room has it's own individual colour scheme along with en-suite. The garden is perfect and very well looked after with it's orchids and fruit trees, well done Kulan. We had a fabulous three week stay here over the Christmas period. Matilda cooked a full English breakfast each morning which was a perfect start to the day. The property is within easy walking distance to the beach, restaurants and bars. Negombo town is a short tuk-tuk ride away and the train station is very accessible for commutes in to Columbo or further afield if you so wish. Matilda and Kulan are such good people and couldn't do enough for us. They've become really good friends of ours and we remain in touch with them. We'd definitely recommend staying here, it's in the perfect location and not too far from the airport. We hope to go back very soon. |

The hosts Mathilda and Kulan are lovely generous people. The rooms are small, bathrooms adequate, AC effective, mosquito nets had holes in them and breakfast curious. This is a B&B not a holiday... more |
