The Scottish Highlands region
From the lush green farmlands of the Borders to the rugged landscapes of the Highlands, the Scots are proud of their land and identity. The beautiful countryside of Dumfries and Galloway is littered with fortresses and strongholds, testimony to its dramatic history. Moving north, the Highlands are to Scotland what the Pyrenees are to France, with equally breathtaking scenery and fantastic opportunities for walking and mountaineering.
Aviemore and the Cairngorms National Park are particularly famous for skiing, whilst Ben Nevis, the highest mountain in Britain at 1343m, is a firm favourite for those seeking a challenge. For the less energetic, the Whisky Trail provides a unique way of exploring many of Scotland’s attractions and for quieter moments, there’s always Loch Ness and a chance to spot the elusive monster! Scotland also has some of Britain’s best and cleanest beaches. Cromarty is famous for its bottle-nosed dolphins and Nairn, whilst claiming to be one of the sunniest and driest places in the country, has glorious stretches of clean sand over which to roam.
Several islands lie off the Scottish coast, each with their own character and heritage, however the Isle of Skye is probably the best known and most visited. As the largest of the Inner Hebrides, Skye’s turbulent geological past has bequeathed it a stunning coastline. Experienced walkers are drawn to the Black Cuillin Mountains, whilst those less experienced have an array of lower level coastal walks from which to choose or alternatively, visitors can take some time to visit Skye’s capital, the charming harbour town of Portree.
The Nedd area
The small crofting township of Nedd (An Nead - Gaelic for nest) is situated on the north coast of the parish of Assynt. Ancient native woods surround Nedd, which overlooks Loch Nedd, a sea loch that’s home to a wide variety of sea birds, seals and otters which appear occasionally. The famous colony of puffins at Handa Island is nearby. Nedd is an excellent base for hill walkers and climbers who are keen to explore Quinag, Suilven, Canisp, Benn Stack, Arkle, Ben More Assynt, and Foinaven. Trout and salmon fishing and stalking is available by arrangement on the many hill lochs for fishing enthusiasts. The Stoer Lighthouse, the renowned garden of Kerrachar, the caves of Assynt and the incredible geological feature of 'Moine Thrust', are all within easy reach of the holiday destination of Nedd.

,Size of the property was amazing, as was the selection of games, video and book library. Dishwasher was lovely too and some pleasant touches such as ornaments etc were very much appreciated.

,The largest, best-equipped and most stylish cottage we had on our trip to North West Scotland. It was really remote with beautiful views, a lot to explore and so quiet.

,Spacious accommodation in a splendid setting. House used regularly by the owners, so they know what is needed for a comfortable stay. This was our third visit.
