Yr Hen Stabl
Cottage | 2 bedrooms | sleeps 4
Situated as it is at the edge of The Beacons and Waterfall Country, Yr Hen Stabl is an ideal base for walkers and nature lovers. Right on our doorstep is the Cwm Gwrelych Heritage Trail, a site of national geological importance. We are proud to say that it is called 'Merfyn's Walk' and the information points relate Merfyn's childhood spent playing and exploring in the area. This is an absolutely unique experience and has quickly become a 'must do' with our visitors.
Enjoy our garden with its many shrubs and trees and herbs for enthusiastic cooks.
After a day outdoors, guests can relax in a warm and cosy cottage where a Victorian shop counter, sloping ceilings, plank doors, wood and slate floors sit comfortably with up to date bathrooms, double glazing and central heating. Compete for a seat on the antique rocking chair and enjoy the many paintings, embroideries, books and games.
At the end of a busy day, relax in comfortable beds with line dried, fine cotton, embroidered bed linen and vintage Welsh blankets and enjoy a good night's sleep.

The South Wales region
Glynneath is a village in the Vale of Neath, an area painted by J W Turner. After a history of coal mining, it has now been restored to its former natural beauty. The waterfalls are deservedly famous and are a base both for walkers and for lovers of more extreme water sports.
For hikers and serious walkers, the Brecon Beacons are nearby. Swansea is twenty miles away with its entry to the Gower Peninsula and its stunning coastline. Afan Argoed Cycling and Bike Park Wales are within easy reach as are the beaches at Porthcawl. Cardiff and Brecon are just thirty miles away.
Yr Hen Stabl is centrally situated for many attractions. An interesting golf course is just a five minute drive away. Big Pit at Blaenavon is very popular with guests. There is Cyfarthfa Castle and museum at Merthyr and Castell Coch on the road to Cardiff.
Neath has a fine Gnoll Park with ponds and water cascades and another large park at Margam where various Antique Fairs and Festivals are held during the season.

"Home from home..."
Our second stay at Yr hen stabl and it already feels like a home from home. Everything we imagined a cottage holiday to be. After a day out on the nearby hills or at the sea this cottage offered everything we needed for a relaxing return to our holiday home. Nothing is missing, everything is catered for. Its wonderful quaint old fashined cosy style is expertly combined with its modern facilities to make every moment spent there thoroughly enjoyable and stress free. The friendly hospitality of Margaret and Merfyn make you feel welcome and relaxed and we will most certainly return for a third stay.

"3 months in Wales"
We spent 3 months in the Yr Hen Stabl, it was a really good experience.
We've been welcomed very friendly by the owners, we spent a lot of time together.
Merfyn's gives a lot of advices concerning visits you can do and Margaret shares her famous recipes and her seamstress talent ! They were very lovely with us.
The cottage is plenty of charme and well adapted for a family, you can benefit of the terrace and the garden. A lot of documentation are available in the cottage so that you won't be borred, you can travel !
You can go to Glynneath by foot and you are close to the rail station.
We advise you to rent a car in order to visit this part of Wales which is very nice : Swansea bays, Cardiff (very famous for Rugby games), all the bays etc... Don't forget to go to a pub to drink a pinte with a dash of lemon during a Rugby game it is very pleasant !
We really plan to go back to this town and to rent again this cottage !
