Home description
Giove is perched high up on a rock overlooking the Tiber Valley midway between Rome and Florence. Il Nido is located in the original and unspoilt part of this ancient hilltop town consisting of the castle and charming walled borgo accessed by means of an arched gateway. This recently finely restored (August 2007) first floor self-contained apartment with independent entrance in one of the original houses on the upper of the borgo’s two narrow twisting medieval streets enjoys breathtaking views from the bedroom balcony over the Tiber Valley and its scattering of medieval hilltop towns. Externally the property retains its original features while the interior has been carefully restored maximizing charm and comfort. The spacious living room with its heavy wooden beamed ceiling, original terracotta tiled floor, open fireplace and bricked door archway through to the bedroom lends a magical aura of cosyness, timelessness and tranquility. Il Nido provides the perfect base for visiting and benefiting from the waters of the nearby thermal baths at Viterbo (all year round) as well as touring the wealth of places of artistic, cultural, and historical interest in the surrounding area as well as for making day trips to Rome and Florence. Neither to be overlooked is the possibility of taking part in the numerous gastronomic feasts (sagras) held throughout the summer both in Giove and other towns and villages in the surrounding area each starring the use of a particular genuine local ingredient such as black truffles, wild boar, snails etc all with plenty of local wine, or simply just to take time off to unwind and relax

The Umbria region
Umbria situated in the very heart of the Italian peninsular has something for everyone, known as “The Green Heart of Italy” it is noted not only for its natural scenic beauty, sweeping olive groves, hill clad vineyards, woods, forests and lakes but also for its great cultural, artistic and mystic tradition. The birthplace of great saints such as Saint Francis of Assisi, Saint Benedict of Norcia the Patron Saint of Europe and Saint Rita of Cascia, its land is scattered with architectural gems such as the Basilica of San Francesco in Assisi and the Duomo of Orvieto. Its history has seen the arrival and conquest by Etruscans, Romans and Barbarians. Luckily, for the moment it remains less discovered than Tuscany its neighbour.
