Natal / Macarajau area
Natal, known as the City of the Sun, is the capital city of the State of Rio Grande do Norte. Known for several decades as a major tourist destination in Brazil its reputation only started reaching Europe at the beginning of the new century. With a population of approx. 800,000 Natal has good facilties, plenty of hotels and of course plenty of nightlife. It's safe and friendly nature guarantee a good experience should you spend some time here.
Maracajau is a quiet fishing village with one major claim to fame.....the largest coral reef of Brazil is just 5 miles out from the coast. There are several locations that cater for diiving and snorkeling plus the necessary restaurants and bars. Other activities range from horse riding, exciting daytrips in beach buggies along the coastline, fishing or simply relaxing on the beach. The village also has a supermarket and pharmacy, and recently several new restaurants and small shops have opened in the village. This idyllic fishing village with it's ideal climate (constant breeze and dry, equatorial trade winds) the people, the food and the low prices, all this makes Maracajaú the perfect place to relax. However, if you want more “action”, in a little over 40 minutes you can arrive in neighboring Natal with 800.000 inhabitants and all the modern facilities and nightlife you can wish for. The prices are so low that you can go by taxi, enjoy the nightlife and spend the night in a hotel for a small sum of money.
How to get there
Low cost flights from Amsterdam (Arkefly is the dutch sister company of Thomsonfly) and Lisbon (TAP) to Natal. Return fares are seasonal and will vary between £500 - £900 per person. We can arrange a taxi for transfer to Maracajau ( approx. £50) Hire cars are available at NATAL airport ("GOOD rent a car" is indeed a trustworthy company). Expect to pay approx. £25 per day for unlimited mileage. It takes about an hour to drive the 40 miles from the airport to Maracajau (via Natal). The route is very easy but we will provide a detailed description (including tips for the city).
