Guest house | 4 bedrooms | sleeps 8
The Carob Tree Retreat is run by the Revd. Marian Morgan, MA (Pastoral Theology and Counselling), FCMI, an Anglican priest, and Mrs. Frances Bennett. They are friends who became business partners when they discovered, after they were both widowed, that they shared a vision to run a Retreat. Revd. Marian and her late husband have been visitors to Cyprus for 28 years.
The Retreat is run on an ecumenical and 'not for profit' basis, with neither Revd. Marian nor Fran taking payment, each having sold their home and bought The Carob Tree House in thanksgiving for all God's blessings and in acknowledgement of the need for peace and tranquility in the lives of busy people. Guests of all Christian traditions are welcome; they may stay for periods from a few days up to 4 weeks, returning as and when desired.
The Retreat, a bungalow, is comfortably furnished and has four twin bedrooms each with private facilities; there is full air conditioning. There are several comfortable seating areas both inside the house and in the very large garden. Most parts of the house and garden are accessible to wheelchair users. We regret that we are not able to accommodate children under 16.
The chapel is always open for private prayer. A daily celebration of the Eucharist is available for those who would like to participate, as are Morning and Evening Prayer. All visitors are encouraged to join together for Compline. There is a large outdoor swimming pool; a washing machine is available for personal laundry. There is no television in the Retreat; personal radios, mobile 'phones and other electronic items should only be used in private bedrooms. A small library is available.
An annual programme is produced covering areas of personal, relationship and organisational need and development. Those wishing to explore a sense of vocation to the ordained, or other forms of ministry, are especially welcome.
Most meals are prepared on the premises with emphasis being placed on the use, wherever possible, of locally sourced produce and on a healthy Mediterranean-style diet. People with special dietary needs are welcome as long as notice is given prior to arrival. Local wine is used and chilled water is always available.
There is no charge for personal counselling or for group sessions. Churches and other organisations may bring their own speakers/leaders and determine their own programme.
Visitors from the UK or other overseas countries will be met from, and returned to, Paphos Airport, about 20 minutes away, without charge. The use of the more distant airport at Larnaca is not recommended as the taxi fare from there is over €100 and the motorway journey takes over 2 hours. Visitors are responsible for their own travel arrangements from the UK, or elsewhere, but advice regarding flights is available from the UK Administrator. Visits would normally begin on Sunday or Wednesday but other days may be accommodated by prior arrangement.
