The New South Wales region
Narooma is at the centre of an area of New South Wales known as " the Whale Coast " or to Sydneysiders as just "the South Coast ". This area is renown for its equitable climate, its stunning and many beaches and has been fortunate to retain a much quieter and less frenetic atmosphere than many other similar holiday destinations in Australia. Let's keep it that way!!
Narooma area
Narooma prides itself on having the most temperate climate in Australia - it rarely gets too hot in summer and many of the locals wear their shorts throughout the winter! The golf course is stunning (see photos) and can be enjoyed throughout the year. It is also great value.
The sea fishing specializes in marlin and tuna and the chartering and equipment facilities are excellent. Bait and fly fishing and sailing on the Wagonga inlet (see photo) are also very popular. Water skiing etc. is available on the Corunna lake within 5k. where you can also enjoy one of several strategically sited gas barbecue facilities.
In the winter months Narooma is part of the Whale Coast and "whale watching" is becoming an increasingly popular pastime.
If you are addicted to oysters and prawns there is nowhere better in the world and this fact is celebrated every year in May at the Narooma oyster festival !!
The sea water temperature in summer is nearly always about 24 deg. C, - what better for enjoying a refreshing and relaxing dip ?!!
How to get there
1. By car from Sydney, either take the coast route- A1 via Wollongong/Batemans Bay - about 5 hours, or take the M5 to Canberra exiting at Goulburn thence to Braidwood/Batemans Bay - about 41/2 hours. Recommended car hire company is Bayswater Car Rental (www.bayswatercarrental.com.au) - very efficient and cheap!
2. By air from Sydney to Moruya with Rex Airline (40mins). Moruya is 25 mins.by car from Narooma and you can hire a car from Hertz through the airline.
Whichever way you go try the "River Cafe" in Moruya for lunch or dinner!!

Further details outdoors: You can walk to Carters Beach (photo) in about five minutes, drive to the stunning Narooma Golf Course in the same time or go fishing on the Wagonga inlet in even less time. There are at least 10 other beaches within easy walking or driving distance which will take your breath away and our favourite, the 1080 beach near Mystery bay, is a world class gem. We will tell you how to get there but you must tell no-one else! A dedicated cycle track to Dalmeny makes cycling for the kids fun and safe, and the boardwalk is just as stunning.
