Home description
Villa Lapis Lazuli sleeps 7 people in comfort and is a very pleasing, detached, single storey south-facing villa in a quiet area in the countryside in the department of Aude.
Once you've closed the electric gates behind you, the lovely mature garden, terrace, barbeque and swimming pool are yours alone to relax in. Despite being just slightly off the beaten track, this villa is less than 1km away from Canet d'Aude, a large village with shops, a boulangerie and a small supermarket. You can walk into Canet or there are 3 bikes available for you to use for local shopping.
The villa is well-located for sight-seeing in this lovely region - it's only 12 kms from Narbonne, and 17 kms from the Mediterranean beaches, and 7kms from the nearest sizeable town, Lezignan Corbieres. It's also within 30 minutes drive of the enchanting medieval city of Carcassonne. Being in the heart of the wine producing area of the Corbieres and Minervois, there are many local 'chateaux' and 'domaines' too which sell wine direct and will offer you a wine-tasting.
The villa has all modern comforts including satellite TV, DVD, and broadband internet access. One of the best features is the summer kitchen (semi-outdoors) where you can prepare your barbeques and salads outside with the family without needing to be indoors. The lovely pool which is 9 metres x 5 metres is attractively fenced for security. The garden is spacious and ideal for children to play in, and there is a boules pitch where the whol family can enjoy a game.
The air-conditioned accommodation extends to 3 double bedrooms, one of which has an extra single bed; one shower room with a separate WC, and another shower room with WC. There is a dining/sitting room where the dining table can seat 8 people and this is where you can also relax on a sofa to watch TV or a DVD.

The Languedoc-Roussillon / Aude region
This part of the Languedoc has a sunny Mediterranean climate. It can be hot in summer, but the temperature is often tempered by a breeze. Now the 3rd most visited region in France by British people, the Languedoc offers something for everyone. Miles of long, sandy beaches, coastal lagoons, vibrant cities such as Narbonne and Montpellier, historical sites such as Carcassonne and the Cathar castles, fabulous scenery, great cuisine and vineyards, vineyards, vineyards.
Narbonne / Raissac d'Aude area
The local village of Canet d'Aude is less than 1km away, and offers most services including a small supermarket, a boulangerie, fresh fruit and vegetables, a pharmacy and a small bar/cafe. Other villages close by like Ventenac-en-Minervois has a wine chateau and a restaurant by the side of the Canal du Midi.
Within the gardens of the villa is a pool for swimming and also a bouledrome where you can play boules. Walking and cycling around here is great as the immediate area is fairly flat and given over mostly to vineyards. Cycling along the Canal du Midi is just great in the shade of the plane trees (cycle hire is available locally).
On the edge of Narbonne is a large leisure centre 'Espace Liberte' with an olympic size pool, 10-pin bowling etc. All types of water sports can be enjoyed at the beach resorts of Gruissan and Narbonne Plage and the coastal lagoons are very popular for wind-surfing. If you like to play golf, there's an excllent course at Beziers, a drive of approximately 45 minutes.
There is an abundance of attractions in this area - it's hard to know where to start. But a visit to this area would not be complete without a trip to the medieval city of Carcassonne, the lively and attractive town of Narbonne, the Canal du Midi, the beach resorts of Gruissan and Narbonne-Plage, the vineyards of the Minervois and Corbieres, Minerve, the abbeys at Fontfroide and Lagrasse and the Cathar Castles.
Children and adults alike will enjoy a day at the African Nature Reserve at Sigean where you can see over 3000 species of animals in close-to-nature surroundings. You can also buy the local wine direct from the many 'domaines' and 'chateaux' in the area - many of whom will offer you a wine-tasting - you just need to decide who is driving first!
The Markets of the region are colourful, varied and full of local seasonal produce. Locally to this villa they can be found at Olonzac on a Tuesday morning, Lezignan Corbieres on a Wednesday morning and in Narbonne - outdoor markets on a Thursday and Sunday morning and a superb indoor market in Les Halles every day except Sunday until 1.00pm.
Restaurants can be found in many of the surrounding villages e.g. Ventenac, Paraza, and Roubia and also in Lezignan Corbieres and in Narbonne.
Supermarkets - within 10 minutes drive there are several in Lezignan Corbieres. You'll also find a large Carrefour hypermarket in Narbonne. There is a small supermarket 1km away in Canet d'Aude.
