Lúnasa* is a modern four-bedroom family home with a private pool located in the Languedoc region in the south of France between Perpignan and Montpellier. It is in the centre of Salles d'Aude, a simple Languedoc wine village, 20 minutes from Narbonne and a short 15-20 minute drive, through beautiful vineyards and the “La Clape” nature reserve, to the sandy beaches of St-Pierre-La-Mer and Cabanes de Fleury.

As parents of teenagers, we have just about managed to keep up with the latest social media trends, so if you would like to see more photos or learn more about the region, please do visit, facebook (villa lunasa) and twitter (@villalanguedoc).

The house's spacious 200m2 will sleep 6-8 people comfortably and is ideal for two small families sharing or one large extended family. There are 4 large double bedrooms, 3 showers (2 ensuite) and 3 WCs (1 ensuite).

The house is family-friendly with a variety of board games, books, DVDs, balls and various children's toys. There is also wifi access, an iPod docking station, a TV and DVD player. Outside there are hammocks, outdoor beanbags and a table tennis table.

There is parking for up to four cars, a 8m x 4m swimming pool with a security fence and a sheltered outdoor eating area with a gas Weber barbecue. We also have some second-hand bicycles, which you are free to use, but at your own risk!

The property is surrounded by walls on all sides, has remote-controlled gates and an electronic wall keypad, giving you and your family peace and privacy during your holiday.

The Languedoc-Roussillon region

The Languedoc region stretches lazily from Provence to the Pyrennes along the Mediterranean sea to Spain.

It has been described as the “Cinderella of the South”, long overshadowed by its more glitzy Provence and Cote d'Azur sisters. Recently it has come of age, as visitors discover the more discreet and untouched charms of the area, at much more affordable prices and far more down-to-earth attitudes!

Of course, we also love Languedoc for its wine: with three times the combined area of Bordeaux vineyards and the largest wine producing region in the world (bigger than Australia, South Africa and Chili, combined!), Languedoc is just one huge vineyard offering a great variety of undiscovered wines to suit all tastes and budgets.

The largest town close to Salles d'Aude is Narbonne, which is always worth a trip for the fantastic indoor market and cathedral. We would also recommend visiting Bages and Gruissan nearby (spot the flamingos!).

Agde (a greek town) and Sete are about an hour away, Coillure (also known as “City of Painters” and inspirational to Picasso, Matisse and Chagall) or Montpellier center (great shopping!) are about 90 minutes, Toulouse is 2 hours away, and if you get really bored, head to Dali's home in the fishing village of Cadaques in Spain (less than 2 hours) or Barcelona which is less than 3 hours.

If you enjoy the mountains, the Pyrennes ski stations of Pyrennes 2000, Font Romeu or Les Angles are all around 2 hours away.

If you prefer to chill at the beach, Cabanes de Fleury is a great, little beach and if you prefer endless sand, St-Pierre-La-Mer or Narbonne plage are better. Check for wind levels before heading to the beach, though!

Children will also enjoy the African wildlife park at Sigean (about 35 minutes away) and there are lots of walks (e.g Gouffre de L'Oeil Doux), bicycle rides or canal trips along the Aude and the Canal du Midi to explore.

For a bit of culture, don't forget to visit Carcassonne, the other Cathar castles and the Abbaye de Fontfroide (about 50 minute drive).
