The Midi-Pyrenees / Aveyron region

The Aveyron boasts no less than nine of the most beautiful villages in France, more than any other department. It is an area of hidden deep valleys, dramatic river gorges ( the Aveyron, Lot and Tarn rivers are all nearby) and also rolling wooded hills and pasture grazed by the richly coloured Aveyron cattle. Conques, a World Heritage Site, the wonderful Cathedral and Toulouse Lautrec Museum at Albi, Cordes, St Antonin de Noble Val and Cahors are all easily reached. A visit to the roquefort caves, the vineyards of Marcillac and Gaillac or the breathtaking new bridge at Millau, all make for an interesting day out.

Najac / Les Mazieres area

The castle at Najac is perched high up on a hill overlooking the village and the river Aveyron meandering it's way through the valley below. Fanatstic views abound, fascinating countryside to explore by car, bicycle or on foot - there are several Grand Randonee walks in the area. For the more active - kayaking, rock climbing, riding, tennis, fishing, golf, river and lake swimming and even sailing. There is a wealth of restaurants nearby to suit all tastes; most amenities can be found within 10mins of the house. Villefranche de Rouergue is a real gem and boasts one of the largest open air markets in France every Thursday; the one at St Antonin de Noble Val on a Sunday morning is also well worth a visit.

This is divided into a sitting room at one end with a log fire, whilst at the other there is a well equipped kitchen and dining area. All the furniture and fittings are of a high standard mixing traditional and contemporary. Also on this floor is the master bedroom, a delightful room painted in warm shades of ochre and blue, a beamed ceiling and a 6ft bed. A large shower room and utility area adjoin. The next room is a games room with an ancient timbered roof.
Elm stairs lead to a mezzanine floor (single bed if required) and thence into two large bedrooms together with a second bathroom. One can be used as a double a twin or both, the other is a comfortable twin or they can be joined to make a large 6ft double. There are electric radiators in every room for the cooler months.

Further details outdoors:
There is a large terrace infront of the house with table, chairs and B.B.Q. A low stone wall with an arched gateway separates this from the rest of the garden; the lawn and the 10x5m swimming pool complete with sitting out area, sun loungers badminton and boules. Beyond the lawn is our own wood with a mill stream and stream passing through on their way to the village.
