The Midi-Pyrenees / Aveyron region

In south central France, half way between the mountains of the Massif Central and the shores of the Mediterranean, is the French département of the Aveyron. Little known outside France, this spectacular region is an undiscovered gem for walkers, ramblers and lovers of the great outdoors. And this richly varied landscape is criss-crossed by thousands of way marked walks.
The Najac area
5km from Les Trois Puits is the beautifully preserved, fairytale like fortified bastide of Najac. The old town occupies a long and narrow rocky ridge, overlooking a bend in the river Aveyron dominated by an inpregnable castle. The main square was laid out in the middle ages to accommodate large markets and fayres, and lined with two rows of houses. In the oldest part of the town is the 12th to 14th century church Saint Jean, the earliest example of Southern Gothic in the Rouergue. Anyone that visits the area must go to Najac for the incredible views and spectacular walks. Najac is a place you will never forget.
The walking trails are endless, from cool flat riverside walks to challenging steep hill and mountain trails. The Aveyron is a favoured destination for walkers with 700km of footpaths, forming part of the National Grande Randonnee network. A range of local walking maps are available at the house.

This is our fourth visit to this lovely house. We return most years because it is so comfortable - everything is catered for, and in style. And yet the house feels lived in - you can really relax.... more |
Guestbook for Les Trois Puits
"A really wonderful gite. Extremely well equipped kitchen, not like anywhere else we’ve stayed!! Had a lovely week. For young children would recommend Cite L’espace in Toulouse (space museum). We also made it to the Med for the day (bit bonkers but doable!). Also the Millau Viaduct is a must see. Thanks for a lovely holiday and all the best for the future."
JUNE 2009 - family Willett Skipton – N. Yorks
"We enjoyed ‘Les Trois Puits’ and wished we could have added one more week to our stay! The house is beautiful and very well equipped. Our daughter Mira liked it very much here. She loved the toys, the cot, the little bath and the bike. Thank you for this lovely week!"
AUGUST 2009 - Joyce & Hilde, Kathleen, Mathias & Mira
"A beautiful house – the décor is just wonderful! Lovely area too. The house is really well equipped. We couldn’t have wanted for anything. Thank you."
AUGUST 2009 - Jane & Maty Carpenter and friends
"We thoroughly enjoyed the house - it definitely got five stars from us. We liked the way it had been rennovated, and everything was sparkling clean when we arrived. Highlights included sunbathing on the terrace, reading in the hammock, and sleeping in very late, thanks to a combination of the shutters and remarkably comfortable bed linens. We did a lot of cooking in the kitchen, and found everything we needed. We also enjoyed the area, and would thoroughly recommend that your later guests try a meal at the restaurant below the castle in Najac,"
JULY 08 - FAITH & DARREN EALES, WALSALL
"Your place was lovely, very peaceful and just what we needed. We thought you had renovated it really nicely and it had everything we needed. We spent a lot of time driving around and visiting the villages which were completely unexpected and gorgeous. All the best for the future."
JUNE 08 - KRISTY & GARY OWEN-JARDINE, LONDON
"It’s wonderful, so wonderful…. Just to say that the place is gorgeous and we spend a real peaceful moment full of pleasure and fun… and walking around to discover the surroundings and its amazing views. We definitely need to come back as soon as possible. So this is only a “goodbye” until next time."

AUGUST 08 - SARA RAHMAN & FAMILY, LONDON
"We have had a wonderful stay in your beautifully restored home. The local fare is excellent and a joy to cook in your well equipped kitchen. The views around the house are wonderful. The Roquefort factory is a must, so is Cordes. Walk, eat and sleep in comfort!.. What could be better - thank you! We'll definitely be back soon!"
SEPTEMBER 08 - SUE & JOHN BAGGALEY, CAMBRIDGE
"We had a great stay in your lovely house and such a beautiful area. As a gift to the house we have left a book of walks and added to the map collection. We managed about 100 km of walking over our 2 week stay and none of it disappointed. Can recomment the bed for long lie-ins! All we can say is “thanks”."
AUGUST 08 - COLIN & LINDA HUMPHRIES, NORTHAMPTON
"Hugely impressed with what you have achieved here, whilst retaining the french feel of the property. We’ve had a great week lazing around in the sun or visiting local attractions like Belcastel, Rocomodor and Conques. Tried most of the local eateries and in our view the best value is the Belle Rive Hotel in Najac. We hope to be back very soon! Best wishes for the future."
SEPTEMBER 08 - TONY & ROSEMARY HALL, BEDFORDSHIRE
"We have had a wonderful time and have tested the house to the full with near 30 degrees warmth to waking up with two inches of snow!! It was always comfortable. Its been great exploring such a fantastic area and are looking forward to returning in 2009."
