The Midi-Pyrenees / Aveyron region
The region is characterised by wooded hillsides winding rivers and small scale farming. Many towns and villages hold weekly markets and in the summer most have cultural festivals
Medieval towns such as of Villefranche-de-Rouergue, Cordes-sur-Ciel, St Antonin-Noble-Val (where Charlotte Gray was filmed). Albi (with its remarkable cathedral and Toulouse-Lautrec museum), Cahors. The famous Dordogne town of Rocamadour is approximately an hour and half away.
The area is particularly attractive in May and October when the weather can be excellent and there are few tourists.
The Gorges du Tarn is a must-do day trip, with amazing varied scenery and reintroduced vultures! On the way you can see the spectacular new bridge over the Tarn valley at Millau.
Najac area
Sunday is market day when the main Square is filled with stalls selling everything you might expect and some that you may not.
The town has a public "lido style" swimming pool.
Many historic buildings including the Chateau.
Kayaking on the river Aveyron
The towns cultural festival is held in mid August
