La Cascade
About the home
"La Cascade" is a beautiful farmhouse that has been refurbished and modernized by the owners as their home in France. It is located in the traditional hamlet of Mazerolles nestling at the foot of a range of hills overlooking the medieval village of Najac which is famous throughout France. Part of the house is believed to date from the 1500's and the original beams and stone walls have been retained so it has an authentic rustic ambiance. It now has four double bedrooms all with en suite bathrooms, a stunning kitchen/dining room and an elegant living room. The house has many French antiques acquired by the owners over the years. The living room and bedrooms enjoy views of the gardens and countryside.
There are lovely rural walks that start directly from the house, not to mention the sports pursuits that are available in the area, some including tennis that are nearby. For the less energetic, the gardens contain many shady spots where one can simply enjoy a glass of wine whilst listening to the birds or the waterfall. The grounds of the house including a large wood are home to a great variety of wildlife. In summer the sky is full of migratory birds, butterflies abound, and it is common to see lizards in the gardens and hear owls at night. The grounds include a formal garden with topiary, rose beds, a lavender border, many flowering shrubs, and a waterfall from which the house derives its name.
On the ground floor of the old barn the owners have created a studio gite which has been converted to the same high standards as the house. This consists of a large living room / bedroom, an ensuite shower room and a very modern kitchen. The gite also has it's own TV and Wi-fi facilities. Normally, it will only be used as part of the accomodation for 12 people. If, however, due to the composition of the party, the sleeping facilities in the house is not adequate for 10 people and the gite is used, then the rate for a group of 12 will apply.

Enquire nowThe Midi-Pyrenees / Aveyron region
The Midi Pyrenees/Aveyron lies within the South West of France. The Averyon department is still little known outside France but this is set to change. With its verdant countryside, rich farmland and rivers running through steep gorges the area is truly spectacular. The history of the region can be seen everywhere with fortified villages, Cathar castles and medieval towns with bustling markets and local fetes. Albi (recently awarded World Heritage status) with its stunning cathedral and Toulouse Lautrec museum is less than 1 hour's drive by car. The Roquefort cheese caves and new Millau bridge can also be visited in a day.
The countryside is rich in wildlife and woods that shelter deer and wild boar and for the rambler there are way marked walks for every level. There are music concerts and festivals in the region, many of which are in the open air, for which the owner can provide further details. The area enjoys a Continental climate with long hot summers, and for those who don't like it so hot, spring and autumn can be very sunny whilst the heat is less intense.
The Najac area
The house is only 4 km from Najac which is designated as one of the most beautiful villages in France. It occupies a long and narrow rocky ridge above the Aveyron river and is dominated by the famous fairy-tale castle with its connections with Richard the Lionheart. The massive 13th. century church built by the Cathars is well worth a visit. During the summer there are music festivals in the village and numerous bars and cafes where one can eat or just have a drink whilst listening to live music. In early September there is the annual 3 day Najac jazz festival. All this set against the backdrop of spectacular views of the castle and the surrounding countryside. Tennis, kayaking, horse riding and rock climbing are available.
There are regular night markets held in the square when you can join the locals in an inexpensive meal cooked on the spot with as much local wine as you can drink! You will sit at long benches listening to local musicians under the stars until it's time to go home.
