"Kililecha" is the perfect house for a family with children or two/three couples sharing, for kicking back and relaxing or setting off and exploring. For the adventurer, the artist, the bird watcher or just to unwind from the stresses of everyday life.
Naivasha is perfectly situated a one and a half hour drive from Nairobi with airport links to safari destinations throughout Kenya - or why not charter your own plane to pick you up from the nearby airstrip and whisk you away to your safari adventure? "Kililecha" is the ideal place to catch your breath between adventures or to make it your adventure. A base between safaris or a resting place for exploring the locality and the beauty around Lake Naivasha. For those looking for a real African adventure "Kililecha" could provide a perfect starting point to drive or fly to the Masai Mara, the coast or to Samburu and beyond.
If you do not want to self cater we can arrange for an excellent local chef to be available per your requirements, be it dinner, breakfast and dinner, evening snacks, picnic lunches – whatever suits your needs, plans and palate on a day to day basis.
We can also arrange for a vehicle with driver to be at your disposal throughout your stay for long or short trips.
Our friendly staff will be on hand to look after you during your stay – Jackie keeps the house spic and span and will change the bed linen and towels regularly. James, our caretaker, will make sure that everything is running smoothly, light the fires in the evening if required and look after the beautiful gardens and Ishmail will patrol the grounds at night to keep you safe from visiting buffalo!
"Kililecha" (kiswahili for “the place on the hill”) is a magical place which will fill you with calm and tranquility with stunning views that catch you unawares from every window of the house. Be warned – don’t sit down for too long or the beauty will keep you pinned to your seat as you drink in the ever changing scenery or watch the birds come and go - hours can go by without you noticing!
Our agent, Cathy, is just a phone call away in Nairobi and will be happy to organise trips, arrange hotel bookings, flights, etc. You can call her with any questions that may arise during your stay or for anything you need to make your holiday more enjoyable.

The Rift Valley Province region
The house is situated over 2,000 metres above sea level and even on the hottest day there is a refreshing breeze. Evenings can be a bit chilly which is where the log fires come in handy! All beds have electric blankets for those who really want to be pampered!
There is plenty of sunshine all the year round and summer clothes are worn throughout the year. The long rains occur from April to June and short rains from October to December. The hottest period is from February to March and coldest in July and August. If you need any help with "what to pack" for your African holiday we will be happy to provide you with a useful list.
The house is situated a short drive from the Great Rift Valley Lodge (check it out at http://www.heritage-eastafrica.com/golf-resort/grvl/) which boasts one of the best 18 hole golf courses in Kenya. Golfers have full access to the course and the green fees are very reasonable. Caddies are always available and golf clubs can be rented from the Golf Shop. You will have free access to the tennis courts, swimming pool, bar, restaurant, gift shop and a fully equipped business centre.
There are many great day trips to be made including the Aberdares National Park with its thickly wooded hills and stunning waterfalls where you can see elephant, an abundance of bird life, colobus and skyes monkey and, if lucky, the elusive bongo antelope and maybe even a leopard. Under two hours drive away, Nakuru National Park, famous for its huge numbers of flamingos, is an important sanctuary for black and white rhino as well as huge herds of waterbuck, zebra, buffalo and the endangered Rothschild Giraffe and much more. This is one of your best chances of seeing leopard and there are several large prides of lion.
Closer to home is Mount Longonot National Park where you can see buffalo, eland, lion, leopard, bushbucks, common zebra, giraffe and many birds of prey. For the energetic there are several activity options including rock climbing, biking, hiking, walking and for those who climb to the summit of this extinct volcano there are stunning views over Lake Naivasha and the Great Rift Valley. Kenyan Wildlife Service rangers are available as guides. Hells Gate National Park is unique among Kenya’s parks, as you are allowed to walk or cycle unguided across its breadth. There’s dramatic scenery, with looming cliffs, gorges and basalt columns. Marking the eastern entrance to Hell’s Gate Gorge is Fischer’s Tower, one of the park’s many popular rock-climbing sites. The park, with its steam vents and bubbling springs, is home to buffalo, zebra, eland, hartebeest, Thomson’s gazelle, giraffe, baboons, serval cat and klipspringer antelopes and over 103 species of birds.
Boat trips on the lake are widely available and this is a great way of getting up close and personal with the hippos and watching the beautiful fish eagle in action. Other activities include fishing and horse riding. Over 400 birds have been recorded around the lake and it supports a large number of hippo and of course the beautiful flamingos for which it is famous.
A more relaxing pastime is a visit to Elsamere - former home of Joy Adamson (author of 'Born Free') and now a museum where buffet lunches and afternoon teas are served on the lawns overlooking the lake. Further round the lake is Crater Lake - a long walk down and even longer back up - but well worth while! A good place to see black and white colobus monkeys and watch the flamingos.
There are craft centres around the lake where local produce can be purchased. A short drive back on the tarmac road you will find the Delamere shopping centre where there is an excellent Indian restaurant, Nyama Choma (barbequed meat which is very popular in Kenya), a supermarket, fresh fruit and vegetables, a choice of freshly squeezed fruit juices and the best cappuccino this side of Rome! The town of Naivasha is a 30 minute drive from the house. There you will find major banks (with cash points), large supermarkets and local craft shops. No visit to Naivasha is complete without a stop at La Belle Inn for lunch or coffee or just to relax with a drink and watch the bustle of this busy town from the shaded comfort of the hotel's verandah. One of La Belle Inn’s main attractions is the European style food! (Pizza, steak, fish and chips, etc). It’s a popular meeting place for wealthy Naivasha locals and for tourists passing through.
There are Naivasha guide books in the library at "Kililecha" from which you can plan your own excursions and adventures.
Here are two sites which offer ideas of things to do around Lake Naivasha:

"Amazing House and views"
The house is situated in the Great Rift Valley and is next to the Golf Course. The views over Lake Navasha are breathtaking. The house is beautifully designed and furnished. We had our own driver and did trips to Lake Navasha, Lake Nakuru and also into Nairobi which is approximately 1 1/2 hours drive. We had our own cook but the kitchen is fully equipped and you could very easily cook for a family. There is a full time maid and gardener who are both delightful.

"Views from a swift's eye level, a lovely base near Lake Naivasha"
Kililecha surpassed expectations. Set back from Lake Naivasha, on top of a hill, with amazing views in all directions you are at the height of the flying swifts. A perfect rental for a group of friends, grown up family etc. with its space and different levels, allowing joint get togethers and your own space if you want. Beautifully furnished and and imaginative. Good staff to help with the chores. Excellent base for exploring the area, playing golf etc. Don't go walking from the house, you may encounter a buffalo!
