BookThe Phuket region
Phuket is commonly referred to as "The Pearl of the South" and is the largest island in Thailand at 540 sq km.
The Sarasin Bridge connects the island to the main land providing easy road access for more extensive exploration of the region.
Phuket’s natural beauty, National Parks, untouched inland rain forest and a myriad of small islands provides the ideal recreational playground for those who wish to explore or just to relax. The islands tropical climate creates a lush green paradise surrounded by stunning blue seas and fringed by white sandy beaches.
If you are seeking a more active holiday Phuket offers a wide choice from golf, tennis, sailing, swimming, snorkeling, wind surfing, scuba diving, horse riding, kayaking, trekking and exploring this beautiful island by bicycle are just some of the options available to make your stay memorable.
It is perfect for enjoying year round outdoor activities on land or sea. Average water temperatures of 24ºC create an underwater environment for countless species of fish. This ensures the ultimate experience for snorkeling and diving. Proud of its infrastructure and controlled development, Phuket offers five star luxury with many of the world's best hotels, international restaurants, extensive night life , mutliplex cinemas, supermarkets and department stores including Central Festival Thailand's largest shopping mall. Phuket offers an unparalleled choice of leisure activities to cater for every need.
The Naithon Beach area
Nai Thon is conveniently situated only a short 10 minute drive from Phuket International Airport yet the tropical hillside which surrounds Naithon Beach ensures freedom from aircraft noise.
Situated both on the beach and along the beach front are a variety of local restaurants and bars. Apart from a wide selection of local cuisine, international food is available at some restaurants for the less adventurous visitor.
Also along the beach front are a number of spas offering a range of treatments. A mini market is open 7 days a week for most essential food items and there are a number of large supermarkets on the island (Tesco Lotus) for the 'big shop' when needed. For the golfer, Blue Canyon - considered one of the top courses in Thailand - is only 15 minutes away (special rates can be arranged) and additionally there are 4 other courses all within a 30 minutes drive.
LOCAL MARKETS: Enjoy the truly local atmosphere and bargain for the best mangoes, papaya, pineapples and other fruits and vegetables and even clothes. Local food stalls are also selling Thai hot snacks - deep fried chicken, steamed corn on the cob, fish cakes, spicy chicken – and you can also buy fresh fish and shellfish.
DIVING AND SNORKELING: The Andaman sea probably has some of the best dive sites in the world that include the pristine Similan Islands, with its stunning Coral Reefs and an abundance of marine life. PADI diving schools can be found at most beaches, including Naithon Beach and offer training courses for the novice.
KAYAKING: You can enjoy navigating your way through narrow passages and small caves amongst the spectacular limestone cliffs - somewhat similar to the more famous James Bond Island in Phang Gna Bay - under the supervision of expert guides. www.phuket-travel.com/kayaking/
TEMPLES: When you travel around you will notice many temples and one of the closest is the temple complex of Wat Phra Thong not far from Thalang along the Thep Krasattri Road and it is the most important local temple. Enshrining a most revered Buddha image called "Phra Thong" (the Gold Buddha) the image is also called "Phra Phut" which means a Buddha image emerging from the ground because, according to local legend, about 200 years ago the villagers found the image buried in the ground and tried to excavate it and enshrine it but only the upper part could be uncovered. Some years after the discovery the locals built a temple over it and covered it with gilded stucco and this is how it is today. There is a museum inside the temple that displays a collection of historical objects including a raincoat worn by miners at the time when tin mining on the island was flourishing.
SPA TREATMENTS: A trip to Thailand is not considered complete without the experience of a few hours of Thai spa treatments. The island has many local spas where treatment will be much cheaper than the number one spa on the island at the Banyan Tree. Refer to http://www.phuket.com/spa_massage/index.htm for a good over view of what is available and the general price range.
JUNGLE TRECKING AND ELEPHANT RIDING: Take a jungle walk in the rain forest nearby with Bang Pae waterfall just 15 minutes away. On the way there, you have the possibility of elephant riding and also to visit Gibbon Sanctuary to see the gibbons that have been rescued from illegal markets or just unwanted pets.
GOLFING: Blue Canyon is only 15 minutes drive away, and is a first class resort offering two 18 hole golf courses. Caddies are provided, and a special rate can be arranged by the owner. Mission Hills is on the East Coast, just a 10 minute drive away. Laguna Golf Club is situated at the famous Banyan Tree Resort (world famous spa treatments), offering 18 holes of resort golf and the other local courses are Phuket Country Club and Loch Palm that now has two great courses. Both these golf clubs are in the direction of Phuket Town – about 35 minutes drive. A good site for more information on golf is www.phuket-golf.com/
TENNIS: Available at Royal Phuket Marina, 20 minutes drive away, the marina area is well worth a visit as it offers a choice of many restaurants as well as other activities which take place at weekends throughout the year, such as music festivals, a Christmas fair, and art exhibitions.
HORSE RIDING: Is available at Laguna, 15 minutes drive away for a beach ride along Bang Tao beach or in the National Park. Helmets are provided.
WATER PARK: This newly built attraction is located West Sands Resort, located at Mai Khao Beach on the North West coast and is part of a new ‘life style’ resort.
LAGUNA AREA: offers a large array of restaurants, shops and resorts all within 15 minutes drive from the apartment.
PHUKET TOWN: Only a 30 minute drive away and is well worth a visit to sample what Phuket used to be like 100 years ago and Phuket Town showcases the island's Chinese past. You can walk around and see a variety of Chinese Temples, old colonial style mansions the Chinese quarter with its restaurants and shops that are all selling a variety of artifacts.
SHOPPING MALLS: These are mainly located along the by-pass road and include Tesco Lotus, Central Festival Shopping Mall, Homeworks (DIY & furnishings) and Big C. Located in Patong Town is a mall called
Jung Ceylon (the former name for Phuket) where you will find a collection of modern shops and easy parking. It is a short walk from here to the vibrant night life area of Patong.
PATONG: Famous for its outrageous night-life, Thai boxing and fun open air bars. 40 km away from Naithon Beach, it is a great place to wander round and observe the rich pattern of Thai night life that caters for all tastes.
