Situated in the beautiful suburb of Karen, Makena’s Place is a charming cottage with gorgeous sprawling gardens. The mature trees and flowering bushes are home to several species of birds that can be enjoyed from the comfort of the veranda.

Makena’s Place is a boutique home with African themes running throughout the house. You will enjoy the art work and unique touches in the living areas and bedrooms.

Makena's Place is also home to its owner. The guest bedrooms and the owner's private quarters are in two different wings of the house so both owner and guests have their own privacy.

Please note, living room and kitchen areas are shared spaces.

There are two, small, playful dogs that live on the compound, they are allowed into the house during the day but do not sit on furniture and sleep outside.

Makena's Place consists 3 guest rooms:

1) The Flamingo Room which sleeps 2 persons (double bed en suite) -

$50/night single occupancy or + $15 double occupancy

2) The Gecko Room sleeps 1 person - $40/night

3) The Kichana Room sleep 1 person - $40/night

NB* Gecko and Kichana room share 1 bathroom.

NB* Unless guests are travelling together the owner doesn't take two different bookings for the Gecko & Kichana rooms at the same time. This ensures strangers do not share the bathroom.

A hearty breakfast is included in the price.

Please note that this page gives you the booking price for all 3 rooms. If you require individuals rooms please indicate in your message so that I can adjust the price.

All linen is 100% cotton and pillows and covers are hypoallergenic . All mattresses are high density spring for a comfortable night.

WiFi is available and in keeping with the peace and tranquility ideal of Makena’s place, there is no television in the house.

Makena’s Place is a 6 minute walk to the modern Karen shopping centre – historically known as the Karen Dukas - where one can find banks, restaurants, supermarkets and African Curio shops. Only 5 minutes away is the famous Talisman restaurant, situated on the main Ngong Road, which leads to the city of Nairobi. The newest establishment in Karen - The Hub which boasts over 10 different restaurants and numerous shops is a 15min walk from Makena's Place.

Karen is home to some of some of Nairobi's best known tourist attractions including the Giraffe Centre, the Karen Blixen Museum, the animal orphanage and the Daphne Sheldrick Elephant Sanctuary, to name a few.

Why can't I call Chichi (the owner) before booking?

You can exchange contact details with the property owner/manager once your booking is confirmed and you’ve paid in full. Paying and communicating only through our platform allows us to ensure that your booking is covered by our Payment Protection policy.

If you have any questions before booking, you can send the property owner/manager a message via the contact form on their listing. Once you’ve booked, you can discuss the rental and make arrangements for your trip by logging into Manage my booking.

How do damage deposits work?

In most cases, you don’t pay a damage deposit up front. Instead, we save your payment details securely and you’re only charged in the event of damage to the property.

Occasionally, you will pay a damage deposit up front as part of the total rental cost. In this case, the owner has 10 days after you check out to report any damage. If they don’t, we’ll return your deposit. If their claim is successful, we’ll deduct the agreed cost and return the remainder.

How do I edit my booking?

You can request to change the dates or number of people on your booking via the Manage your holiday booking page. To change your holiday dates use the Edit booking button. If you need to change the number of guests staying then send Chichi (the owner) a message.

If Chichi (the owner) agrees, they’ll send you a revised quote outlining the changes. You can review and accept/decline this from the Manage your holiday booking page. You’ll have 48 hours to take action before the revised quote expires.
