"The Constant Gardener" home - quiet single room
from £34 /night help
B&B | 2 bedrooms | sleeps 1
Built in 1919, Rosslyn is one of Nairobi's oldest and most special surviving homes. Set in a private 2 acre garden it is near UN Gigiri office, Village Market and Westlands. You'll have your own small cosy single bedroom and a bathroom across a hall.
We offer bed and breakfast in "Amanda's Room", a single bedroom in one of the oldest character homes in Nairobi which has been our family home for more than 50 years.
Your bedroom is small but comfortable and cosy. Across the pretty courtyard with water feature is shared bathroom (original claw foot bath and hand held shower) and toilet. Oddly the bathroom has never had a basin but there is one in the bedroom adjacent!
Full English breakfast is a house specialty, fresh fruit, tea or freshly brewed fine Kenya coffee, cooked breakfast with our own free range eggs, toast, marmalades, muesli/oats/porridge are all available. If you have any dietary requirements please let us know at time of booking.
Rosslyn was used as the home and garden of 'The Constant Gardener' 2005 drama thriller film starring Ralph Fiennes and Rachel Weisz who won an oscar for her role.
You have access to and use of the living areas of the house, sitting room, dining room, front or side verandahs, kitchen, courtyard, bathroom, secure parking and 2 acres of English style garden with expansive lawns.
Interaction with Guests
You can chose your level of interaction; keep your privacy or join whoever of the family are in our home at the time. If you wish to have lunch and dinner on your own or with us this can be arranged for KShs1,000 per meal.
Sonia, my mother, lives at Rosslyn and is a great hostess and I spend about half the year here.
Thigiri, or New Muthaiga, was until the 1970s 2 large coffee estates. In the 1970s they were sold for residential 1 acre plots. Our home, Rosslyn, preceeding the development, was built by Andy Anderson, a hunter, in 1919.
Thigiri is 5 minutes drive to the Village Market, 7 minutes to the United Nations offices at Gigiri (more at peak times), 10 minutes to Westlands, 20 minutes to downtown Nairobi, 45 minutes to JKIA International Airport and Wilson Airport. These last 3 times increase at peak traffic times.
If you need a taxi we can arrange one for you at reasonable rates.
You can walk to Village Market (25 minutes), matatus (local public transport vans) are ubiquitous, or have your own vehicle or taxi (can be recommended).
