Home description
The property is in Naiharn Baan Bua, a gated development with low-key security. Some properties are owned by resident expats from Europe, Australia, New Zealand and the US. Some are kept as holiday homes and a few are rented out. The development is complete, well planted and very peaceful.
The house is stunning, with a view of the lake and well-planted gardens. It is split level, with parking, kitchen-diner, living room, terrace with table and chairs overlooking the pool and lake, and a bedroom on the top level. Steps lead down to the 12-metre pool, bar, master bedroom with spa bath, and two further bedrooms. The house is well equipped. The development is well-managed, and there is an office on-site to lend assistance when necessary. Maids come three times per week, and the pool and gardens are maintained twice-weekly.. A chef can be provided on request.

The Phuket Island region
Climate is tropical, with little variation in temperature. Humidity changes significantly: low season lasts from November to March. Humidity starts to increase in April, and there is some rain in July and August. However, weather in August compares favourably with the UK, with sun every day and some rain in the evenings. Please observe the safety flags on beaches in the wet season. Scuba diving is still possible, and visibility is very good. Everything remains open. Rain becomes regular in September and October.
Thailand is predominately Buddhist; Muslims make up around 10% of the population, and there are nearly as many mosques as temples.
The infrastructure in Phuket is excellent. Transport is good (although a hire car is recommended for this location, and there are no railways on Phuket.) Private hospitals are run on US lines for those with insurance, and service is at least as good as the private sector in the UK. Over the last five years, western style shopping malls have been built near Phuket Town and Patong, and smaller neighbourhood malls are springing up in several areas.
The house is on a 1300m2 plot at the Nai Harn beach end of the development. Nai Harn is a quiet area well to the south of the magnets of Kata-Karon and Patong. The beach is superb, and there are dozens of restaurants within a ten-minute drive. Prices range from £3 to £20 per head. Some of these are of exceptional quality, and service is usually excellent.
Nai Harn area
A trip to Nai Harn can be as relaxing or as active as you like. Children love the area. Boat trips across the stunning Phang Nga bay are a must. This can be combined with a trip to the so-called James Bond Island (Ko Phing Gun) or the Muslim fishing village at Ko Panyee, or sea canoeing into the caves and hongs where you may see monkeys, bats and lungfish.
There is a National Park at Khao Sok (3 hours' drive), where you can take a jungle safari or go white water rafting. More locally, you might try an ATV trip or elephant trekking. There are several high-quality golf courses within a twenty-minute drive, including the Laguna Palm and Mission Hills. The famous Blue Canyon course is an hour from the house. On-line bookings can be made.
Phuket and nearby islands are among the best snorkelling / dive-sites in the world. We are happy to advise on locations and to recommend PADI training facilities. It is possible to be on Phi Phi in 45 minutes by speedboat from Chalong. Alternatively, try Shark Point and Stag Horn Reef. Further away, an overnight trip to the Similan Islands is well worthwhile.
Towns on the west coast are varied and interesting. The first towns as you head north are Kata and Karon (great shopping, Dino's mini golf and many restaurants) and Patong (for pretty well everything, including a fantastic new shopping mall called Jung Ceylon, parasailing and go-karting). The northern side of Patong is home to the Simon Cabaret, where the Lady Boys will amaze you. (Avoid the "VIP" seats on the ends of rows, or make sure your friends sit in them!) Further north still is Kamala - Fantasea is a tremendous show.
Phuket City is busy and crowded, and quite difficult to negotiate. However, shopping (especially the markets) is lively, and there are some fine restaurants. There are also several churches.
How to get there
We would recommend Thai Airways via Bangkok. Alternatively fly Eva Air to Bangkok and Thai to Phuket. Alternatives are to fly Malaysian to Kuala Lumpur or Singapore Airlines to Singapore.
David Car Rent provide a variety of cars at sensible prices. I am happy to book this for you by arrangement. The usual alternatives, including Hertz and Budget, are available at the airport. Alternatively, David car Rent will transfer you to Nai Harn by Taxi and deliver a hire car to the house the following day.
