The Phuket Island region
Phuket has a tropical monsoon climate. It's warm all year round, but the two periods of April-May and September-October are the hottest. The September-October period is also the wettest, however even at these times it rarely rains for more than 1-2 hours per day.
The best time to visit Phuket is during the cool NE monsoon season, from November through March, the average temperature is around 75ºF to 89ºF (24ºC to 32ºC).
From April through May, temperatures range from 80ºF to 95ºF (27ºC to 36ºC), during this period there are frequent but short thundery showers, but in these temperatures, even rain is pleasant.
In June, July and August the weather is usually fine and the restaurants and beaches are uncrowded. The usual pattern is brief but heavy showers, with plenty of sunshine between downpours. Temperatures range between 70ºF and 90ºF (20ºC to 33ºC).
During September and early October is the wet season, however even at this tim, we still get long intervals of sunshine between the heavy showers.
Phuket is renowned for its golf courses, sailing, diving, and beaches. There are numerous excursions available from hiring a longtail boat to riding an elephant. Patong with its world famous nightlife is only a 30 minute drive away.
Nai Harn / Ban Saiyuan area
A quiet little spot at the southern end of Phuket, Nai Harn is one of the island's most beautiful locations and most popular places with in-the-know locals. This quiet and tranquil place has only a few hotels and is a favourite anchorage for boats during the high season.
Great for swimming from November to April. The local restaurants just above the beach make a great place to relax with a sundowner. Just north of Nai Harn are a number of small secluded beaches that attract snorkelers and divers.
A great place to have a snack and watch the sunset is Promthep Cape, a popular viewpoint only a few minutes drive from Nai Harn.
How to get there
Phuket airport is well serviced by a number of national and budget airlines with frequent flights from Bangkok and Singapore.
