A kilometre outside the beautiful city of Nafplio, Hannah's Holiday Apartment is in a luxury complex with swimming pool, located in a small, rural neighbourhood of new private houses. The property is ideally situated for day trips to Agamemnon's Palace at Mycenae, the ancient amphitheatre of Epidavros, and the remains of Homer's Tiryns.

The apartment is on the second floor with lovely views over the village. The spacious main room has a fully fitted kitchen with dishwasher, large fridge-freezer, microwave, kettle, ceramic hob and fan oven. The dining table comfortably seats 8 and when extended, can seat 12. There is a flat screen TV, DVD player and Wi-Fi. A selection of DVDs and popular novels (in English) is provided. There is an attractive working fireplace with marble surround and fire irons in the sitting area. The front balcony which is south facing, leads off this room and has a plexi-glass roof offering shade in the hottest part of the day. A table and chairs for dining al-fresco, a small barbecue and a bench swing as well as a selection of pot plants complete its amenities.

All three bedrooms are doubles and are equally spacious. Each has built-in wardrobes and extensive storage space. Linen and towels (including pool towels) are provided. Bedrooms one and two have double beds while the third bedroom has twin sofas which can be readily converted into twin singles. The small balcony off bedroom one is north-facing, has a table and two chairs and is always cool, making it ideal for early morning coffee or late afternoon frappe. Bedrooms two and three share a long, west-facing balcony with views to the distant hills - a perfect place to view the sunset while sipping a cocktail.

The main bathroom has a washing machine and a large bath with shower above. The smaller, second bathroom has a shower.

The building's design ensures that the apartment is cool even in very warm weather and there is air-conditioning in all three bedrooms. The apartment has full central heating for winter breaks.

There is ample parking in the quiet street behind the complex. While the local shop, restaurant and Nafplio itself are accessible on foot, a car is advisable.

A stay in Hannah's Holiday Apartment gives you the opportunity to live like a local while enjoying the comforts of a good hotel at a much reduced rate.

The Peloponnese region

This part of the Peloponnese is full of famous archaeological sites; Bronze-age Lerna where Hercules is reputed to have killed the Hydra, Agamemnon's Palace complex at Mycenae with its Lion Gate, the ancient amphitheatre at Epidaurus where theatrical and musical performances are still staged, and Homer's "Cyclopean-walled" Tiryns. The area abounds with orange and olive groves and the scent of orange blossom and jasmine perfume the air. The picturesque islands of Spetses, Poros and Hydra are accessible by ferry from the beach resort of Tolo and regular island tours run throughout the year.

Nafplio, described as "the jewel of the Peloponnese" in Frommer's Travel Guide to Greece, displays its long historical past in its many beautiful buildings. The picturesque old town with its marble-floored Syntagma Square is overlooked by the Palamidi fortress crowning its hilltop. The harbour is lined with coffee shops and pavement cafes, allowing an unimpeded view of the Bourtzi fortress which seems to rise spectacularly from the water. A pine-scented coastal walk leads from the beach of Arvanitia to the beach at Karathona, affording magnificent views over the Mediterranean and across to the mountains of Argolida.

Nafplio caters for its many visitors with a fine array of tavernas and restaurants to suit all pockets, and nightclubs and bars. There are small, family-owned shops selling fine Greek goods from chess boards to hand-made jewellery to decorative glass objects. There's a twice-weekly Farmer's Market with amazing local produce as well as Carrefour, Lidl and Co-op supermarkets.

Ayia Kiriaki, where the apartment is situated, enjoys a rural feel with walks round the hillside giving a sweeping panorama over Nafplio and the surrounding countryside, with its farms and orchards. It has a local shop with a deli, fresh baked goods and essential groceries, plus locally sourced wine, beer and spirits.

"Stunning apartment in a beautiful town!"

Friendly welcome, kitchen stocked with goods, spacious, clean, balcony overlooking a private swimming pool. Heavenly. And less expensive than staying in hotels for a week. Will definitely return. Thanks, Hannah!
