The Aegean Islands region
Mykonos is famous as a cosmopolitan destination among the Greek islands and widely recognized as one of the great travel Meccas. According to classical mythology, the Giants killed by Hercules in a fierce battle, are buried on the island under imposing blocks of Mykonian granite.
The name Mykonos means a mass of stones or a rocky place. A later tradition attributes the name of the island to a hero by the name of Mykonos, the son of the king of Delos, Anios, who was the son of Apollo and nymph Rhoio - a descendent of Dionysus.
Mykonos was one of the first Greek islands which was developed touristically. Since the 50’s, the island saw a massive growth of tourism. What makes Mykonos unique, is the particularly beautiful landscape with the intense Aegean profile and the characteristic traditional architecture. Today, the night life of Mykonos is considered as one of the most active and vibrant in Europe.
Mykonos Town (Chora) is a stunningly picturesque Cycladic town with a maze of tiny streets and whitewashed lanes, houses and churches, built around its harbor in the middle of a wide bay. It is one of the most cosmopolitan and crowded towns of the Aegean. Although the streets are lined with little shops, boutiques, art galleries, cafes, stylish bars and restaurants, Mykonos Town has not completely lost its identity.
Despite the island’s rapid growth and development, its traditional Cycladic architectural style and character has remained firmly intact, thanks to the island’s strict building regulations.
The Mykonos / Kalafatis area
Kalafatis bay is one of the most beautiful and quiet beaches of Mykonos Island, only 9 km away from the Town center. It is a long sweeping bay with white sandy beaches spreading out on either side of a narrow rocky headland. Clear waters make Kalafatis an ideal choice for fine swimming, offering the option to catch a boat for Dragonisi an islet off the east coast which has many caves, some of which are said to be populated by the rare monk seal. Being one of the earliest established beaches, it is well known to wind surfers who enjoy a good offshore breeze.
Apart from wind surfing, the visitor is able to enjoy various water sports including diving with access to the shore. Many small restaurants with reasonable prices can be found in the area often specializing in local seafood dishes. Our villas are only 5 minutes away from the crystal clear waters of the Aegean Sea.

Eight adults including myself and my husband stayed at the Mykonian Villa a few weeks ago. What a memorable experience! Despite viewing it on the Internet prior to booking, our jaws dropped when we first entered the Villa with its sweeping views from every window and pool to the style and décor of the inside. It has a fully equipped if you choose to never leave during your stay with a full kitchen, Internet, daily maid service, etc. It's very private and quiet but because the island is so small the drive to popular destinations is short. We had the luxury of George Diamantopoulos at our service. With a HEART OF GOLD he made sure at every moment we were enjoying our stay. You may be able to find a “Villa” with the same views or décor but what sets this Villa apart is the service you receive from George. He recommended places to eat, things to do and where to go. He knows the right people and places. He assisted us in our car rental, ferry service and got us a cell phone. George brought in food from a local Greek restaurant, took us grocery shopping and brought in daily fresh bread. He caravanned us to restaurants on three occasions, speaking to the owners, making sure we were treated like royalty. He even partied with us on Super Paradise Beach! I could go on and on. In all honesty we would have had a great time in the Villa on our own but the personal service we received from George made this an experience like no other! If you go to Mykonos, book with George!!
