Key Info

  • Swimming pool
  • Great for children of all ages
  • No pets allowed
  • Private garden

Las Peyras is part of a building dating back to 1837 which has been renovated to a high standard to provide spacious accommodation for up to 5 persons. With a large garden and west facing terrace, there is a gated entrance to a long private drive, ample off road parking. The property benefits from a private pool with roman steps and the pool area securely fenced. The house offers a rural outlook on the heights of Sourzac with a paddock next often with horses or ponies.

The property is completely private, separated from the other small gite Les Pierres by the old barn and a hedge.

The large garden and pool are for your sole use, however, larger parties can add the other gite to provide accommodation for up to 7 persons.

In a rural setting within a small hamlet the local village is 5 minutes drive and the nearby market town 5 minutes in the opposite direction.

The village of Sourzac on the banks of the River Isle has a magnificent church (ancient Abbey) and a highly recommended restaurant offering excellent food in a unique setting.

For all your other needs the market town of Mussidan has shops, banks, supermarkets, tourist office etc.

From the east side of the house, facing the pool, an entrance door opens to a large hall/vestibule, with a double ground floor bedroom off, plus large shower room, separate wc and large cupboard with washing machine.

The hall leads onto the large lounge with vaulted ceiling open to the mezzanine floor and through to the kitchen diner. Two sets of French doors open out onto the west facing terrace overlooking the large lawned garden.

There are garden chairs and table for eating out and a barbecue to enjoy those warm summer evenings.

In one corner of the entrance hall a spiral staircase leads up to the open mezzanine floor with one double and one single bed in a large area under the vaulted roof.

The lounge has seating for five or six with the fully fitted kitchen and dining room off.

The kitchen has an electric cooker, oven and hob, plus extractor hood. There is a small fridge, dishwasher, filter coffee machine and kettle, plus, of course , all the necessary pots and pans, plates and glasses etc.

The lounge has a television receiving the main French national channels and the whole living area benefits from air conditioning.

The Aquitaine/Dordogne region

The Isle valley has been inhabited since prehistory and traces have been found of cave paintings near Sourzac as well as dolmens and standing stones. The Normans are reputed to have sailed up the Isle and ransacked the valley in the 9th century, pillaging many of the towns on the way, Montpon, Mussidan and the fortified abbeys of Sourzac and Saint Astier. To the north of the Isle lies the 50,000 hectare forest de la Double, a haven for wild life and containing a large lake at Le Jemaye which boasts artificial beach, water sports, nature trails, childrens play area, picnic tables, snack bar and restaurant, worthy of a day out.

Bergerac: To the south lies Bergerac with it's pedestrianised medieval town centre with charming timber framed stone houses, quaint alleys and old squares. Here you can take a boat trip on a traditional flat bottomed Gabare from the ancient port on the banks of the Dordogne, take the little train on a guided visit of the town, or simply enjoy strolling about. You will find lots of interesting shops, museums and a variety of restaurants catering for all tastes and budgets.

Mussidan

Situated in the Vallee de l'Isle the area has numerous places of interest to visit including the regional park at Lake Jemaye, with sandy beach, swimming, boating and nature trails. The Abbaye Notre Dame de Bonne Esperance at Echourgnac a Cistercien monastery where you can sample and perhaps take home the famous cheese.

The nearby market town of Mussidan with it's large Saturday morning market has the Museum Andre Voulgre, a bourgeois house with a collection evoking the crafts of times past. For those seeking something more active, why not hire a canoe, or an electric boat at nearby Neuvic, a boat trip on a traditional Gabare from the Moulin de Duellas at St Martial d'Artenset.

A little further away but within easy reach for a day out are all the classic sites of the Dordogne, from dramatic and picturesque medieval stone villages to pre-historic cave dwellings and fairy tale chateaux, not forgetting the world famous vineyards.
