The Limousin / Auvergne / Puy-de-Dome region

The Auvergne is a fantastic place for a holiday - the air is pure, the lakes are clean, the scenery is magnificent and there exist every activity you can think of to entertain you - walking, hiking, biking , hot air ballooning, quad biking and horseriding to name but a few. The spa towns of La Bourboule and Mont Dore and their Belle Epoque architecture are worth a visit. The climate of the region is one of proper seasons - Autumn is a fabulous time to visit as the trees turn red and gold and auburn, Summer is warm and sunny, and Winter offers great skiing in the resort of Super Besse. In Spring the fields are full of wild flowers and poppies. There is enough space for everyone to have a wonderful time.

Murol area

Murol is a small town in the Vallee Verte which is dominated by its castle, the Chateau de Murol and surrounded by forests and nature. In Summer, the castle holds jousting events and medieval re-enactments and the Bastille Day celebrations and firework display are spectacular. The town itself has a few nice bars and restaurants and is a very pleasant place to wander around. In Summer there are numerous markets and Brocantes.
Murol is just 25 minutes drive from the ski resort of Super Besse.

How to get there

The Auvergne is approximately 8 hours drive from the port of Calais. There are budget flights to Limoges and Air France flies to Clermont Ferrand.
