The Balearic Islands region
The Village Muro is a small village of 5000 residents located in the North-East of Mallorca. Come and enjoy the wall museum one of the most important ethnological museums of Mallorca. It's important festivities “Sant Antoni”, Setmana Santa”, “Francesc de Paula”, Sant Juan” and “Sant Jaume”. Every Sunday you can have a walk around our market. Buy your fruit, vegetables, fish and typical mallorcan food. Muro has one of the most beatiful beaches in Mallorca. Only ten minutes by car from the village you can enjoy a virgin beach, or visit a Natural Park “s'Albufera”. Just two minutes walk from our house there is the antique bullfight square which was built leveraging the hollow an old quarry, and the public sports centre with a big swimming pool, tennis and basketball court and restaurant. Five minutes from the house there is the city centre with all the restaurants and the church.
S'Albufera 6,6 Km
S'Albufera, the largest and most important wetland area in the Balearics, is a former lagoon separated from the sea by a belt of dunes, which for many centuries - but especially in the last two as a result of human influence - has filled up with sediments converting it into an extensive flood plain. The Natural Park affords protection to some 1708 hectares of marshes and dunes.
S´Albufera traces its origins back some 18 million years, but the present wetland was formed less than 100,000 years ago. The current sea dunes are even more recent, being around 10,000 years old.
Muro is a typical Mallorcan town on the north side of the island with an agricultural heritage which attracts visitors from all over the island. There are some grand old houses which were built by wealthy Mallorcan landowners. It is close to the S'Albufera National Park. Close to the beach yet offering a peaceful location, a self catering house is the perfect base from which to explore this lovely island
The Old Town of Muro has a long and interesting history making it an fascinating place to walk around. Along with the fine mansions built for wealthy local landowners, there is a beautiful 16th century arcaded church, which is one of the finest on the island. It is dedicated to Sant Joan Baptista. There is also a local museum, housed in an old mansion house which is built around a courtyard and garden. The museum has costumes, local pottery, tools and workshops.
The local beach of Playa de Muro is just 10km from your villa in Muro. It is a growing coastal resort with a lovely beach lined with some luxury hotels.
The boats at the marina of Alcudiamar make a beautiful sight as you stroll around this lovely area of Mallorca's coastline.
