The Puglia/Molise region
The Apulia region of Southern Italy is a glittering jewel. Strong, vibrant colours dominate the landscape. Apulia manifesting thousands different facets, enchanting atmosphere and folklore, the most famous being the "pizzica", popular dance which the local mhytology thought able to cure people from tarantulas poisonous sting. Muro Leccese area
Muro Leccese is a small village at the south-east of Lecce. It keeps the remains of those civilazations that during the times have shaped it and moulded it. Through the menhirs, the antique pajare (great trullos-typical rural residences-which characterize the countryside), the remains of mesapic walls (uncommon example of military building) the precious Byzantine churches ( Saint Marina, Saint Mary of Miggiano), the monuments of baroque style (Our Lady of the Annunciation church, Virgin Mary church and Palazzo del Principe, on the magnificent Piazza del Popolo) the visitor arriving here can do a wonderful voyage through the time. Otranto is at 10 minutes by car (8km) and offers a lot of sand beaches, such as the kilometres long beach of Alimini, and plenty of historical monuments. At only 2 km from Muro Leccese, there is the town of Maglie, with most of facilities for shopping and trattorie and pizzerie.
How to get there
Brindisi is the closest airport to Muro leccese . All Italian airlines, including budget airlines (i.e. Ryan Air, Volare Web and My Air) reach Brindisi essentially from Milan and Rome.
Brindisi may also be reached directly from London with Ryan Air. Once you reach Brindisi airport, Muro Leccese may be reached by car (all car hires are available) or by private or public transportation. A lot of private companies provide transportation services from Brindisi to any town within Salento region (please contact owner for any additional information in this respect).
