Home description
We rented this villa before we bought and it was the first time we had enjoyed a holiday in self-catering. It had been someone's main home with all those little extras, as well as having one of the best locations in Murdeira.
The villa suits those that like to sunbathe (roof terrace overlooking ocean with chaise longues), relax, swim (nearest small beach 80m away and swimming pool 200 m), eat al fresco (teak dining tables on roof terrace and in outdoor dining room), read books, play tennis, fish from the shore, snorkel, listen to music (CDs, MP3, USB on Sony Mini Hi fi, listen to local radio (Cape Verdean music is great), watch TV(cable TV)/DVDs or the stars, or live the life of a beachcomber but with as many mod cons as are possible. The grocery store is close (200 m) - it sells basic stuff, and if you don't want to cook you have the possibility of all or some meals in the oceanfront restaurant next to the swimming pool. For those that like wind surfing, surfing, kite surfing, diving, there is plenty of room to store your kit, and washing lines to dry things out.
Sea is about 80 m from the sunny roof terrace
Sitting area facing ocean seats 10, dining table seats 6
House overlooking ocean has mahogany shutters
Main bedroom with super king size bed, hear the ocean

The Barlavento Islands / Sal Island region
Sal is the dryest of the Cape Verde Islands and the oldest. Being 2.5 hours south by plane from the Canaries, Sal has a tropical climate (16 degrees north) but with a unique weather pattern. It's not as wet as other places on this latitude (if it rains at all it rains between August and October), and has a very temperate climate between 21 and 30 degrees.
Being a volcanic island, there are places of interest which include the extinct volcanic crater, which you can walk around, or swim in the salt pans. Burracona is a large rock pool formed from a volcanic eruption; it has large black huge lumps of coal like substance and a place to swim, near where the sea enters the pool. There is also a cave here where experienced divers like to visit. Sal is known by those that like water sports; diving, sailing, wind surfing, surfing and kite surfing. There are numerous places to do these.
Murdeira area
Murdeira is well positioned between Santa Maria the main tourist town and Espargos the capital, giving you more of a feel of being in the Cape Verde Islands. There are several festivals in Sal during the year and we send all our villa guests very comprehensive instructions and a guide to Sal with ideas on what to do.
How to get there
Direct flights from London Gatwick (5.5 hours), Manchester, Birmingham, Lisbon, Paris, Munich, Amsterdam to Sal, Cape Verde. 10 minutes by taxi from Sal airport to the villa (approx 7 euros).

3 Bedrooms have twin or super king size German beds (tell us how you would like them to be made up). Large fitted wardrobes in 3 bedrooms, together with bedside tables, lamps, and chest of drawers. 2 hairdryers, 2 clock radios. 4 fans. Extra bedroom on first floor leads off balcony from principal bedroom, and this has a single bed in it. When not in use it can be used as a store room for suitcases etc. December 2007 we sent a container of furniture, fittings, china and kitchen equipment to Sal, to equip the villa like home. Because of house design with tall ceilings and windows on three sides, it keeps cool by environmental cooling. Aircon in 3 bedrooms. Extra charge for use.
Further details outdoors: There are two balconies on first floor, as well as large roof terrace overlooking the ocean, with walls on three sides. On the garden level, there is a paved terrace, and outdoor shaded dining room which is closed on three sides, with views to the sea.
By the main large communal pool, there are children's pools. Boules set, card games supplied. Oleanders, hibiscus, papaya, palm trees in garden. Warm shaded outdoor dining area and sunny roof terrace face the sea.
On the roof terrace there are 4 chaise longues (of which 2 are teak), teak bench, and 2 teak tables and sun umbrella. On the patio there is a table for 6, and two of the teak dining chairs turn into steamers for sunbathing at the ground floor level. Outside the kitchen there is an outdoor shower (useful when you come in sandy from the sea), an outdoor sink (very useful for preparing fish).
Further details
Rentals are for 7 days or more. We welcome adults and children over 7. Also available seaview villa with 2 bedrooms facing ocean, just 200 m away. The villa is like staying in someone's home, except they are not there. You will find that there will be some food and drink there upon arrival which you are welcome to use and replenish. We can arrange transfers from airport, visas, car hire, starter food packs, wine delivery and the name of a very good local taxi driver who speaks English and knows the island well.

Guestbook for Peacock Place
"We thoroughly enjoyed our holiday. Everything you need is there. You've thought of everything. The car was excellent; we went off on dirt tracks and found little bays. We'd sit up on the terrace in the evening watching the sun go down - it was very quiet. My husband fished from the shore and caught a red mullet and an eel. He was very happy fishing. Murdeira is a very nice spot. It's far enough from the airport and far enough from Santa Maria." Evelyn from Surrey
"We had a fantastic holiday, very stress free. It all worked so well. We'd definitely go back. We all wanted to stay for longer, even the youngsters. The house was wonderful. I've been all over the world and never had one that well equipped." - Nicola from Warwickshire
" The villa and location were fantastic. Extremely well equipped villa and it felt really homely, too. We had a lovely relaxing time. Beautifully clean sea, though, and great waves. Constant temperature of about 24 C was great. I swam in the pool which was always empty. Only ventured as far as Santa Maria one day for lunch and swam amongst surfers. Much preferred the tranquility of Murdeira. So happy at villa that we didn't explore any more of the island. Jenny from Lincolnshire
"Lovely home. You could not have asked for anything more. Sal I found quite different. At the moment I'm really missing it. There is something about it - I want to go back" Diane from Lancashire
