The Barlavento Islands / Sal Island region
Year round sunshine in the Cape Verde Islands. Less than 6 hours direct flight from the UK. Ex Portuguese colony, now independent and dependent on tourism. The reason Sal has grown as a tourist destination over the years is its wonderful sandy beaches, dry climate, warm temperatures, abundant fish and friendly people. For a laid-back holiday, where you can relax, this is the place. Only 10 minutes transfer time from airport to the villa.
Murdeira area
Murdeira Bay is on the west coast of Sal. It is the first resort of its type to be completed in the Cape Verde Islands and as such benefits from being completed and generally unaffected by building work which is going on in some of Sal. With water storage and a generator, roads, plants and services in place it is in a unique quiet position.
Just 10 minutes away is Santa Maria, the tourist town with numerous bars, restaurants. Or Espargos, the capital of Sal.
Visit the tourist town of Santa Maria Float in the volcanic salt lake Take a mud bath See the fishing boats and long distance yachts in port of Palmeira Enjoy local life in Espargos Fish from the shore, or by boat. Dive with a diving school Take a day out in a sailing boat Go quad biking Visit other islands on day trips in a light plane Walk along the coast See underwater life by snorkelling from little coves Go surfing, kite surfing, wind surfing, dinghy sailing Dine at the water's edge in local restaurants Enjoy fresh fish and seafood Explore deserted beaches Picnic at the water's edge Listen to the sound of the ocean Hire a car and go off road Enjoy Cape Verdean music at local restaurants and night spots
If you don't adore the sea, you won't like Sal. It really appeals to ocean lovers who enjoy the simple things in life.
How to get there
Direct flights less than 6 hours from London Gatwick and Manchester UK. Direct flights from France, Portugal, Germany, Sweden, Denmark, Italy, USA. Arrive at Sal airport and head south for 10 minutes until you reach Murdeira Bay. Taxi from airport about 6 euros.

Guestbook for Hibiscus House
Well, back at work and dreaming of sun, sand & sea: we had a really great time - everything certainly met and exceeded our expectations! the villa was delightful - a real home from home - and was spotlessly clean when we arrived. We will certainly be recommending the villa to all our friends so hopefully you'll get a couple of extra bookings!! We are now converts to the Cape Verde lifestyle - and very envious of your lovely home in the sun!! A from Kent.
We really enjoyed your house, large rooms, large terraces, nice furniture (teak on the roof terrace, futons etc). Beautiful view and very calm ... exactly what we were looking for! E from Belgium.
Just a quick e-mail to let you know how much we enjoyed our holiday. The weather was superb, the people lovely and so was the villa. Had some superb meals out in particular Chez Pastis, Leonardo's and a wonderful Indian. We made use of Alfonso and his taxi quite a lot and he was very helpful so thank you for him. Thank you very much for all the information you provided and I will complete and return your questionaire at the weekend when I have come down from my holiday high.
Better than home. C from London
The villa was lovely, and very well equipped. We were very lucky with the weather and had a very relaxing time. Murdeira was very quiet and private. L from London
