Situated on the cliff above Mullion Cove, No. 2 Coastguard Cottages is one of a terrace of seven, originally built around the 1890's for the coastguards as a lookout station. The apex of the pitched roof is actually flat where the officers would take it in turns to climb up on the roof for their watch looking out across Mount's Bay toward Land's End. This is a very characterful, as well as welcoming, cottage. Approximately 150m from the cliffs and coast path and with sea views from all of the bedroom windows and garden, it is in an ideal position for coastal walking, beaching, exploring the Lizard Peninsula and relaxing.

Enter the property from the rear into a small hall. The family bathroom is to the right (additional toilet and hand basin upstairs) with bath and mira thermostatically controlled shower, handbasin, shaver point, toilet, heated towel rail. There is also a washing machine enclosed in a cupboard at the entrance to the bathroom.

The spacious kitchen diner is to the left of the hall and is the heart of the cottage, with original inbuilt floor to ceiling dresser, wooden fitted units and slate tile flooring, cooker, fridge, freezer and microwave. There is a large oak table and chairs leaving plenty of room for both cooking and using the games available in the snug. This room leads into the small snug lounge with 3 seater sofa plus single chaise, LCD freeview television, DVD, CD/Radio, books, games and wood burn/solid fuel stove. Patio doors lead out from this room into the garden with plant border, Moroccan mosaic table and chairs.

Upstairs there are two bedrooms and a second bathroom with toilet and sink. Bedroom one has both rural and sea views towards Poldhu and across mounts Bay. It has a standard double brass bed, bedside cabinet and lamps, chest of drawers and wardrobe. The second bedroom has sea views of Mullion cliff and the Cove. There is a single bed with a bedside table and a single cabin bed with a bedside drawer, both with bedside lights, wardrobe. On the third floor there is a small bathroom with toilet and sink adjacent to it.

The cottage is 150m from the SW coast path and Mullion Cove Hotel with its excellent restaurant/bar which is open to the public. Mullion Cove is a short walk away down the coast path where you will find a small beach approx 500m away. There is a fantastic tea room at Mullion Cove itself selling breakfast, meals, snacks and ice creams throughout the day.

The wonderful secluded locals surf beach of Pollurian Cove is 15 minute stroll from the cottage and the popular Poldhu Cove Surf Beach is a 5 minute drive away. For the adventurous, there is a stunning cliff walk from the cottage to the renowned Kynance Cove along the SW coast path. This is the ideal location to explore the wonderful Lizard peninsula with all its beaches, coves, estuaries, wildlife, sailing, boating, angling and glorious scenery.

The village of Mullion is a 15 minute walk away where you will find two convenience stores, a fish and chip shop, deli, restaurant, takeaway pizza, post office (with cash point), general store and various other shops and galleries.

Rental includes electricity, night storage heating, bedlinen and towels, use of washing machine and WiFi.

A maximum of two well behaved dogs are welcomed, but we ask you to restrict them to the downstairs area and to keep them off the furniture please.

The Cornwall region

The Lizard Peninsula is unique. Stunningly beautiful at any time of the year, there is nowhere quite like it anywhere else in Britain. It is for this reason that the Lizard has been a continuing source of inspiration for artists and writers. Almost surrounded by the sea, the peninsula stands alone, in a very real sense, from the rest of the county. In a line from London to Land's End, the backbone of Cornwall is a route to somewhere.

The Lizard. Not a cross-roads, a junction, or a place to drive through, but a journey's end, a destination. Standing proud in the sea, the peninsula presents a rugged face to the elements, yet paradoxically the climate is probably the warmest in Britain. The air is crisp, clear and unpolluted by industry. The rocks and cliffs of the coastline offer shelter to the tiny fishing villages huddled into their coves, looking now much as they did centuries ago.

It is an ancient place, where history is indelibly inscribed on the landscape. For these reasons, the Lizard Peninsula has been designated an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. It is recognised as being of international botanical importance - and here you can find 15 of Britain's rarest plants! The warm local climate has led to the abundant growth of sub-tropical vegetation, and a constant profusion of colour.

Mullion

Mullion Cove Beach is a small, west-facing beach in Mullion harbour which is accessible only at low tide. The beach is situated in a picturesque cove on the west coast of the Lizard Peninsula, Cornwall. It has a cafe famous for its freshly made crab sandwiches....my mum's friend told me she and her husband still remember them from 30 years ago as being the best they ever had, and it is still run by the same family now as it was then.

The Mullion Cove Hotel is 100 yds away and has a restaurant and bar.

The South West Coast Path passes along the cliff tops and provides scenic walking routes to Kynance Cove to the south and Gunwalloe to the north. The cliff tops, which boast fine sea views, are home to a diverse range of plant life and wildlife.

Pollurian Cove is approximately 20 minute walk and descent north along the coastal path and is a wonderful surf beach especially when the tide is out, This tends to be the the "local" beach and quiet even in high season. Poldhu Cove, another great surf beach, can be reached with a 5 minute drive. It has car park, toilets, shop and cafe

Helston is around 9 miles drive from Mullion Cove. Of Cornwall's major towns, those within easy traveling distance include Falmouth (17 miles), Penzance (21 miles), Truro (25 miles) and St Ives (23 miles)

Mullion Cove is around 5 miles (as the crow flies) from Lizard Point, the southern-most point on mainland Britain.

Mullion Cove is a mile from Mullion, the most populous village on the Lizard Peninsula which offers further attractions including shops, art galleries, cafés and restaurants. Mullion Golf Club is around 2 miles to the north of the beach.

Newton equestrian centre is also 2 miles away.
