The Shropshire region

A E Houseman once wrote that Shropshire was "the quietest place under the sun" and today the county remains something of a rural idyll, recognised as one of the least crowded and most peaceful regions in England.

Much Wenlock

Close to the village of Cardington, the little hamlet of Longville lies at the foot of Caradoc and Lawley Hills in the South Shropshire countryside. Nearby Cardington boasts the oldest pub in Shropshire - The Royal Oak – which has been recorded as far back as the Domesday Book. The settlement's rural situation is ideal for walkers, with miles of country trails in all directions. Cyclists and horse-riding enthusiasts can also enjoy a wealth of off-road pathways. Buzzards, woodpeckers and ravens have all been seen in the local area, making this a popular place amongst bird watchers. Acton Scott Historic Working Farm, Severn Valley Steam Railway, Stokesay Castle, Shrewsbury, Ludlow and the Ironbridge Gorge are all within 15 miles of Cardington, whilst Church Stretton, known as 'Little Switzerland' by the Victorians, is also close by.

Thank you for your review and we were pleased to learn that you found Rose Cottage to be comfy and well furnished. The owner is extremely sorry that it appears certain aspects of their cleaning routine were overlooked and will be addressing this accordingly with the cleaner for that week. They are sorry that you did not contact them during your stay as, because they live near to Rose Cottage, they would have been able to sort out these problems immediately for you. The owners hope that you will not be deterred from returning to this lovely property in the future.
