Have you ever heard of Motovun, small inland Istrian village? It is so tiny, but the stories Motovun tells are great and big. The legend says that the giant bult this cherry on top of the 277 meters high hill in Mirna valley in the hearth of Istrian peninsula. Many years later giants started to disappear and plain human beings inhabited Istria, but the legend was preserved, as well as the looks of Motovun until today. Take your time, and you won't regret a second spent wondering Motovun's narrow street. They'll lead you to 12. century when this town-monument gain the face his proud of today. But first leave the longest Istrian staircase with 1052 steps to take you from the bottom of the hill to Motovun's Venetian town square. The acropolis town spreads in circles around it whit it's renaissance town palace, town lodge, parish church Saint Stephan, the smaller churches of Madonna dei Servi and Madonna delle porte, city gates with tower and all of that knitted with the medieval layout of the streets, town cisterns and many coats of arms on the building facades. Once seen, Motovun will easily become the prettiest sight you've ever seen. Surrounding Motovun are vineyards the cradle of the famous Istrian wines, teran and malvasia, while the Motovun forest, which extends for kilometers along the Mirna valley, is the dwelling place of the famed underground mushrooms, truffles that are extracted in this region with the help of specially trained dogs. You can find accommodation in Motovun rooms and apartments as well as in one hotel in the center, expecting nothing but best from kind smiled hosts and from famous Istrian cuisine in the region. Festivities in the summer or early autumn won't leave you indifferent; Motovun film festival - The international Motovun film festival founded in the year 1999., at the beginning of August gathers up to twenty thousand film lovers, 'throwing of the horn' - The traditional local game takes place from the top to the bottom of the Motovun hill, Festival of balloons, wine and truffles – takes place in the first weekend in November and take one to the magical gastronomic pleasures spiced with Motovun adventure. Do not miss Motovun this year!
