The Rhone/French Alps region
Chez Natole is in an idyllic position at the edge of the tranquil village of Seytroux, near Morzine, with picturesque views over the Vallee d’Aulps to the village of Le Biot one way and to St Jean d’Aulps and Morzine in the other.
Seytroux itself is an enchanting Alpine village offering a quieter and more tranquil base for a holiday than nearby Morzine, making it an ideal place for a family holiday. It has a shop and depot de pain, bar and restaurant within 5 minutes’ walk of the house. There are numerous delightful and well sign posted walks from the house in and around the village and its neighbouring hamlets, and along the banks of the beautiful river which are suitable for all abilities.
St Jean d’Aups, only 5 minutes’ drive away, has many shops, bars, restaurants, a large supermarket as well as its own ski area, La Grande Terche.
Morzine, which is probably the best base from which to explore the enormous Portes de Soleil ski area, is only 15 minutes’ drive away. Morzine has been an Alpine ski resort since the 1930’s and is an attractive and vibrant town with fantastic bars and restaurants (many specializing in regional Savoyard cuisine), internet cafes, a local market , a thriving nightlife and every amenity one might need. In addition there is a superb sports complex with an Olympic swimming pool, tennis courts and all other usual sporting activities. Nearby Lac Montriond is a beautiful Alpine lake and offers tremendous walking and ski cross and in the summer, fishing, canoeing and other water sports.
Geneva airport is a little over an hours’ drive away with Lac Leman (Lake Geneva ) and attractive Thonon about 30 minutes to the North and Switzerland just over the next valley all within an easy drive.
Of course what the area is best known for is its magnificent skiing. The Portes du Soleil is the world’s largest international area offering some of the world’s most extensive and varied skiing and snowboarding. It has 12 ski stations in France including Avoriaz, Les Gets and Chatel in France and Switzerland including and Les Crosets in Switzerland. It has 197 lifts and 650 kms of skiing and is suitable for complete beginners to advanced skiers and boarders.
With many pistes extending above 2000m is regarded as snow sure from end December to April. It is possible to access the Portes du Soleil region from many different ski stations meaning that a week’s skiing is continually varied. For intermediate and better skiers and boarders it is possible to do a complete tour of the circuit either starting from Les Gets or Abondance, providing an amazingly varied and full on days’ skiing. Floodlit night skiing is also available.
La Grande Terche, with its family friendly ski tour circuit offers excellent intermediate and off piste skiing and is within 5 minutes’ drive of the house but linked by bus to the other resorts in the network.
