About the home

Beautiful stone country cottage, with beamed ceilings, standing in its' own level grounds. The gardens (mostly lawned) surround the cottage and are fully enclosed by post & rail timber fencing with wire mesh between to safeguard toddlers/pets.

Ground Floor has well-equipped farmhouse kitchen/diner with views to front and rear, sitting room with wood-burning stove in traditional Normandy granite fireplace, and W.C. First Floor has 2 x double bedrooms (1 with double bed, 1 with 2 x singles) and bathroom with bath & shower over.

Magnificent views from the south-facing rear across peaceful rolling countryside over the River Sée (excellent trout fishing) and beyond. 1 mile from Chérencé le Roussel which has boulangerie & pizzeria, and 5 miles from Brécey with large supermarket and shops. A plethora of fine eateries is at hand, from gourmet restaurants to brasseries and pizzerias.

Uninterrupted open views across rolling meadowland from south-facing rear - the kind of views Constable might have painted if he'd been here!

25% deposit required on booking. Balance due 2 weeks before arrival.

A well behaved dog or cat is allowed.

Refundable breakages deposit of £150 deposit required on or before arrival, returned in full (subject to losses) within 1 week of departure.

The Normandy / Manche region

Situated roughly midway between Avranches and Vire, and only 30 miles from the magnificent Le Mont St. Michel, France's most visited attraction after Paris, La Fleuriais is ideally placed to explore 1,000 years of European history, from the walled city of Falaise (birthplace of William the Conqueror) to the landing beaches of Operation Overlord of WW2. All this culture can be imbibed with a glass or two of Calvados (local apple brandy - try it on fruit salad!) and a galette (savoury pancake).

Fabulous, safe sandy beaches are a little further afield: 40 mins uncongested drive to Joulouville, but well worth it if you fancy a day at the seaside.

The Mortain area

The River Sée (1/2 mile) is famous for the quality of its' trout fishing.

The surrounding countryside is hilly and very scenic though (almost) horizontal walks and cycling close by around Lake Dathée (9 miles), 6.1 km all the way round; golf and fishing at the same location.

“On the edge between Normandy and Brittany” We stayed at La fleuriais the last week in june and the first week of july 2011. We had lovely weather most of the time and about 20 degrees. It's a very fine stone house in lovely rural surroundings, with all the comfort you need for a good vacation. Plenty of room for a family and with all the amenities you need. Especially the kitchen is well equipped and acces to washing machine, freezer and refrigerator makes it easy to plan your days and your shopping. We spend the evenings in the garden enjoying our dinner, a glas of wine and the fine view over the valley, with farms, cows and wood. The location is excellent and we explored both the tourist attraktions and the landscape of Normandy and Brittany. In the tourist office in Vire we bought some walking maps with 15-20 km walking routes. It's a fine way to experience the landsacape. Before we arrived an during our stay we had close contact with John Bussey about all the practical things (it was the first time we rented a house through Hollidaylettings) and he was very helpfull. All the way the Bussey family were helpfull and friendly. We had a splendid vacation and can only recommend La Fleuriais to others who want to experience Normandy and Brittany.
