Yew Tree House is a traditional 150 year old Charantaise house, located on the edge of the small village of St Fort Sur Gironde, in the beautiful Charente Maritime. The property boasts exposed stone walls and traditional fireplaces. Upstairs, all the floors are polished wood adding to the old world charm of the property.
Outside there is a lovely new terraced area (80m sq), ideal for dining or sunbathing, leading onto a large private south facing garden,with shade, which is ideally suited for both young and old alike. A newly constructed heated pool (10mx5m) with a terraced area make this an ideal holiday home. It is situated in a village with amenities; bar, shops, post office, boulangerie, a small market twice weekly, and a bank (with cash machine).
Spend a day relaxing by the pool or visit the lovely safe sandy beaches and coves of Meschers, Saint George de Didonne and Royan, which are only a 20-25 minute drive away. The Charente Maritime benefits from a 'micro-climate', with a warm sunny climate which lasts from March to the end of September making this an ideal venue for families with young children.

The Poitou-Charentes / Vendee / Charente Maritime region
From Royan you can take the ferry across the Gironde estuary. The 'dune du pilat', the largest sand dune in Europe is within easy reach and well worth a visit. The region is full of historic sites and is famous for its proximity to the route of the pilgrims from northern France to Santiago de Compstello in northern Spain. Within an hour's drive are the historic towns of Saintes, Cognac and Bordeaux each offering their own charm and individuality. The region is famous for its cuisine, with many wonderful seafood restaurants offering freshly caught local seafood. The port at La Tremblade is lined with cafes and restaurants - you will be spoilt for choice!
The region produces some of the best wines in France, the local 'producteurs' are only too pleased for you to visit and enjoy a tasting session.
Mortagne sur Gironde / Saint Fort Sur Gironde area
Charente Maritime offers something of interest for all ages, from activities such as water sports,go-karting, walking, cycling, horse riding or visiting places of historic interest.
For those with relaxation in mind, there are several beautiful beaches and coves nearby, some which have water sport activitiies available for hire. North of Royan on the Atlantic is the Cote Sauvage which has 15 kms of unspoilt sandy beaches for wind surfing and body boarding. There are designated areas for the the naturists out there.
The zoo at La Palmyre is a must for all the family. Alternatively fishing, tennis, the pool complex at Jonzac, cognac brandy and vineyard tours with tasting, are all within a short drive. Within the hour you can be in La Rochelle, an ancient port or discovering the famous vinyards of Bordeaux.
How to get there
BY CAR
Saint Fort is about 4 hours' drive from St Malo, 5 hours from Le Havre or 7 hours from Calais. The motorway which brings you into Charente Maritime is the A10.
The best route from Calais is via Boulogne, Rouen, Le Mans and Tours - simply follow the signs and you can’t go wrong. It's motorway all the way (apart from going around Rouen). The roads are new and make the drive a much pleasureable and quicker journey than the route via Paris.

Further details indoors: This lovely house has a lounge, large well equipped dining kitchen, 2 shower rooms, w/c, 5 bedrooms; 1 king size, 1 double and 3 twin rooms.
Further details outdoors: The pool is newly constructed in June '08 and is a fabulous bonus during the hot summer months. Sun loungers, parasols and tables and chairs are provided for the use of our guests as well as floats and inflatables. The pool is heated and boasts a salt system for sanitation which is almost odour/chlorine free, ideal for those who suffer from the after-effects of chlorine. There is a large grassy area for ball games etc.

Eg - Changeover day is Saturday, arrival from 4pm, departure by 10am. Bed linen, pillows, duvets and towels for indoor use are provided. Gas and electricity are included. Smoking is not allowed in the house. Sorry - no pets. On booking we ask for a deposit of 25% of the total cost, with the balance payable within 8 weeks of arrival. Garden / pool areas are shared with the owners and their guests.
