The Poitou-Charentes region

The majestic port of Mortagne sur Gironde is a superb village located on the Gironde estuary, it has a magnificent port and a wonderful countryside. The port has several excellent restaurants at competative prices for a menu.

The weather is very enjoyable all year round thanks to the Atlantic climate. The quietness and the tranquillity of this place will enchant you.

For fishermen there are numerous possibilities to enjoy your sport depending on your budget. For nature lovers, the days will seem very short as it is impossible to see everything. The ancient city of Saintes going back to the Roman invasion, fabulous cafes and shops with a Galeries Lafayette in the high street. Saintes is situated on the wonderful Charente river.

Mortagne-sur-Gironde

There are many activities available in the local area. These include: boat trips on board of the Origan, enjoy hikes & horse riding or donkey riding, visit the Ermitage Saint Martial, the post card museum, discover the Charente chairs, hikes and mountain biking, kayaking and sailing. The towns of Sainte Georges de Didonne and Royan only a few minutes drive away with miles of golden beaches. Meschers is ideal for children of all ages especially toddlers with its rock pools. A lovely town with lots of shops. All the towns have daily markets, Mortagne has a twice weekly market you can walk to (2 minutes)

"Comfortable cottage and very friendly and welcoming owners."

I would definitely recommend this holiday accommodation to others. Michele, Joelle and their children are very welcoming and they made us feeling like at home. Michele and Joelle were always available to help but unobtrusive at the same time. Michele has also organized wonderful fishing trip for us. Highly recommended place if you want to travel with your dog; our dog (Newfoundland) was not only accepted but very welcomed, Michele also gave us the details of nearby vet clinic familiar with Pet Travel Scheme.
Great communication prior to holiday, I was getting responds to my emails immediately.
Very nice place and very friendly people.

"Great Gite, Lovely owners and Lovely village"

This was one of the best, if not the best places we have stayed at in France. Michel, Joelle, Leah and Luc are a lovely family and made us very welcome. Mortagne is a lovely place to stay and having this Wonderful Gite to stay at was an added bonus. The restaurants at the Port are a must to visit but the walk back up hill can be a bit of a challenge if your getting on a bit like us. We would love to come and stay here in this lovely place again if Michel will have us back with our noisy dogs.

"Great gite in lovely quiet village"

Michel and Joelle are lovely owners. Though they live on the same site they are very discreet but are there if you need any help or advice on local area.
The gite was very clean and well equipped and the pool area was lovely.
The port is a 20 minute walk and has good restaurants and bars. You can also buy local produce there.
The village has all the amenities you need- boulangerie, chemist, bank , mini mart. A large super U is a 20 minute drive.
One thing to note is that the twin bedroom is separate to the main living area. It is 'underneath' on the ground floor level with it's own entrance. This suited us well for our 2 teenagers who had their own space and bathroom- but may not suit families with young children ( there is a double and bunk room in main upstairs living area)
