The Poitou-Charentes region
La Flotte, a tastefully restored 18th century period manor house with four gites set amongst 16 acres of private grounds and parkland.
Located about one mile from the centre of the coastal village of Mortagne-sur-Gironde complete with harbour and quayside cafes and bars. See full details including interactive video tour on our website. We are in the heart of the micro climate of the Charente Maritime with 2,700 hours of sunshine a year and surrounded by vineyards and sunflowers.
The nearest beaches are 15-20 minutes up the coast at Meschers. These are small coves with safe sandy beaches.
Another 5 minutes further up are the huge sweeping beaches of St George and Royan, each with lots of space and some watersports and full safety patrols.
North of Royan is the Grand Cote - several miles of sandy beaches with some local beach patrols. Finally a little further (say 40 minutes from La Flotte) is the Cote Sauvage, again good sandy beaches.

"Beautiful gite in an ideal location"
To be met by a smiling host, wonderful meal, two bottles of chilled wine and a pretty, well appointed gite reassured us that we'd made a good choice. The grounds have a fantastic pool, places to sit and a nearby lake for fishing. It is well placed for the coast and there are many wonderful restaurants serving the most amazing sea food. The service given by Amanda is helpful and friendly.

"A wonderful place to stay"
We have recently returned from 2 weeks at La Flotte, staying in the 2-bed Les Volets Bleus. Everything was perfect - extremely comfy beds with all mod cons throughout. Our teenage son especially valued the Wi-Fi and Freeview TV. Amanda and her family are very welcoming and we can really recommend the tasty evening meal provided on our first night. There is so much to do here.......sightseeing at La Rochelle and Bordeaux; beaches both on the Gironde estuary and also the Atlantic coast; plus lots of cycling. Our favourite trip was taking the ferry with our bicycles across the Gironde from Royan to Le Verdon (14 euros for 3 plus bikes), then cycling down to the seaside resort of Soulac via a lovely disused railway track. You can of course just laze about by the pool.......

We knew from their fantastic website that this was going to be a special place and it certainly did not disappoint. Very clean love the bathroom and especially the bed and bedding very luxurious. It was lovely to wonder around the extensive grounds and also to sit by the pool. The welcome was warm and continued throughout our stay. The surrounding areas are lovely and we found some great restaurants. Would not hesitate to return!

"Beautiful gites, fantasic setting, wonderful hospility from the owners"
Just returned from a week staying at La Flotte with my partner and 7 year old daughter. We loved it at La Flotte and had a great holiday, The setting is beautiful and very peaceful. We stayed in Honeysuckle which was lovely, well equipped, comfortable, tastefully decorated with a nice outside area to BBQ and sit. It was a bonus to have WiFi and UK TV. The welcome meal on our fist night was very tasty and much appreciated after the long journey. The local wines available from the 'honesty' fridge are good and so cheap as compared with UK prices! The swimming pool is a good size and with lots of inflatable toys my daughter had a great time. The play area and outside seating area were also great. There is plenty to see in the area, we had a trip to Saintes and Blaye as well the beach at Meschers but you can happily spend the day pottering about the grounds of La Flotte and relaxing by the pool on the comfortable loungers. One of the main reasons why we liked La Flotte was the fantastic hospitality from the owners, Amanda and Tim. They made us feel very welcome and we enjoyed our first evening chatting over a glass of wine in the communal seating area and getting to know them over the week. Our daughter found two great playmates in their girls and their two dogs. It was lovely that she could play outside and explore in a safe environment. She liked it so much that she was reluctant to leave La Flotte to go on day trips, even to the beach! I would wholeheartedly recommend La Flotte, especially to families with young children although I do think that older children would equally enjoy it as well as couples.

"Good Family Holiday"
We stayed in the 2 bedroom property, lovely outside space and a beautiful pool. Amanda and Tim had gone to a great deal of trouble with the interior design of the property, the furnishings and the quality of beds....all fantastic! There is also a great play area which was safe. My children thoroughly enjoyed the holiday as did we.

"Wish I was there now!"
Just returned from a very relaxing two weeks in Honeysuckle with wife and two daughters (11 & 14). Wish we had come here years ago. Great location amongst the vineyards and sunflower fields. Went off to various beaches up the coast - great surfing, sailing and relaxing! Pool at La Flotte was a joy to return to at the end of the day and greatly enjoyed re-acquainting myself with a proper charcoal BBQ. Amanda is the real jewel in the crown - we were instantly made to feel very welcome. As per other reviews - the honesty fridge was also very welcome - nice wines and decent beers. Wi-fi connection was excellent - a necessity given ages of our kids and decent freeview telly meant we could also enjoy the Olympics on the BBC.

"Relaxing holiday in rural France"
My husband and I booked Le Petit Manior for a week, with our two grown up sons and a girlfriend. The Gite is full of character, clean and well equipped for a self catering holiday. Amanda provides an excellent meal on the first night, and we used her recommendations for local restaurants. The other nights we used the BBQ which is in a private area and a good size for a party of five. While we were staying we used the warm, clean pool which had plenty of inflatable toys for children. There are very comfortable sun loungers by the pool for reading books. We also used the communal seating area for late evening drinks. This must be an ideal place to come with small children but we proved it is equally attractive to 5 adults. La Flotte is surrounded by vineyards and we spent two days walking. Then a day in Cognac and another touring the Medoc wine area. Amanda was so friendly and made sure we all came away having had a great holiday.

"An excellent holiday - beautiful location, fabulous hosts"
We have just returned from two weeks in Honeysuckle Cottage. Amanda and Tim make all their guests feel very welcome - they are extremely friendly and helpful - but at the same time not intruding in any way. We requested the arrival meal which was truly delicious and very welcome after a long journey. The weather was mixed but this worked out very well, as we spent lots of time visiting the local area. There is certainly no lack of things to do - the coast is beautiful and very varied, with pretty beaches and caves at Meschers and a lovely resort at Royan, fascinating towns at La Rochelle, Braye and Saintes, Cognac tasting (the Martell distillery is definitely worth a visit)....and the local village of Mortagne is lovely too, with its port, ermitage and very friendly local people. We often cycled to the village for our bread, croissants and supplies from the supermarket. The pool at La Flotte and the outdoor sitting area are lovely in hot weather and you can explore the estate with its lake and fields. This has definitely been one of our very best holidays and I would strongly recommend it.

"The perfect holiday"
My husband and I and our 2 children (7 & 11) stayed in Les Volets Bleus for 2 weeks. It was a perfect size gite - good size kitchen with all the tools and utensils you would wish, a lovely cosy sitting room with UK TV, a good sized serviceable bathroom (shower), and 2 excellent sized bedrooms. It has WiFi which was useful for checking out the local area. The little garden was perfectly shaded and we made good use of the Weber barbecue. The swimming pool is a great size to let the kids play and lets you get some lengths in as well. There is so much outdoor space at La Flotte that it was easy to spend several lazy days around the place. As well as our lazy days, we were able to quickly reach the beach or the zoo. A little further (an hour) is La Rochelle where the aquarium entertained us on the not quite so sunny day. The area around La Flotte is beautiful - perfect for short and long walks, and if you desire, the boulangerie allows a 5km run there and back for your bread in the morning. We didn't, but it would be the perfect area to do some cycling - bikes can be hired for 5 or 10 days if you can't bring your own. Amanda and Tim seem to have thought of everything, but the "Honesty Fridge" really was the icing on the cake - an endless supply of wine and beer! We will be back!!

"Beautiful setting, lovely gite - fantastic holiday!"
We stayed at Le Petit Manoir with 2 small children for a week in June. The gite had all mod cons and was furnished very stylishly. The owners offered a welcome meal which we took them up on as we arrived on Sunday and it was delicious. The gites are in a beautiful setting all with their own outside space so you could have your own privacy if you wanted it. The kids loved the swimming pool and outside play area and the covered outdoor lounge was perfect for the adults to sit and enjoy a drink whilst the children played on the climbing frame! The owners Amanda and Tim were excellent hosts - happy to answer any questions we had and gave good recommendations on places to visit. Little extras such as an 'honesty fridge' where guests could help themselves to beer/wine and pay back later were a great idea, as were boxes of toys the children could borrow and items such as sun umbrellas and boules sets! We would definitely recommend this property to friends - a lovely holiday.
