Northern England region

Northumberland has more than 150 attractions for you to visit, ranging from castles and historic sites including Hadrian's Wall, gardens and stately homes, museums, and plenty of places to visit along the coast and in the countryside.

Here in Northumberland we are particularly proud of our vast, unspoilt beaches as they are undoubtedly some of the finest in the UK. Northumberland has some of the cleanest beaches in England and every major beach has been passed by the Environment Agency for the cleanliness of its water.

Morpeth

Cresswell is a quiet pretty little village with a community of about 200 residents on the North Sea Coast. It's a very popular birdwatching area, with Cresswell pond and bird hide nearby, attracting an adundance of rare birds. The village has one ice-cream shop and a beautiful Church. It's also very popular with walkers, families and dog lovers due to the vast sandy beach. It's a very peaceful area but within easy reach of all the attractions that Northumberland has to offer.

Little is recorded of Cresswell's past other than that the devil once paid it a visit. According to local legend, in 1752 Cresswell had a tailor who was the best in the country. The devil tried to tempt him to fall into the sin of pride. The story goes that the tailor was suspicious and contacted the local vicar and the devil vanished in a ball of fire!

The area is rife with legends, tales of witchcraft and mysterious happenings and visitors may enjoy listening to some of the local stories of the supernatural which abound in the area. As a hotspot for witchcraft, a total of 23 witches were recorded as being executed in the area!

The National Trust owned Druridge Bay Country Park is just under 3 miles north of Cresswell and is a nature lover's paradise. It's wonderful to be able to enjoy the lake and the wildlife upon it, then walk just a couple of hundred yards through the dunes to the biggest beach in Northumberland. Various watersports are enjoyed here, including waterskiing, windsurfing and canoeing .

The area has spectacular scenery, scenic clifftop paths and a beautiful golden sandy beach.

Northumberland has a 64 mile coast path which begins at Cresswell and runs along the coastline to Berwick upon Tweed, making it a very pleasant place for walkers.

The outstanding natural beauty of the Northumberland Heritage Coastline attracts many visitors who appreciate the rugged coastline, vast and sandy beaches and stunning landscapes.

"Luxurious!"

We stayed here with family for a long weekend. The house is huge with lots of space for the children to run around and explore. I felt like I was staying at a spa hotel - picture thick, fluffy towels, jacuzzi baths, champagne and chocolates! It is only a short walk to the beach and a great location for exploring the rest of Northumberland.

"Superb Luxury House"

10 of us stayed at the house for a long weekend. The group included all ages and everyone had an amazing time. Even the photos on the web site do not do the house justice as they cannot adequately convey the size of the rooms. Everything is prestine and its obvious that no expense has been spared to create a magnificent home. The weather was kind to us and we had a lovely walk to the beach with the children. I would recommend a drive out to Alnwick to visit Barter Books - but give yourself plenty of time - its a bookworms paradise. We all had a truly relaxing break. We split the cost between the family and it was worth every penny. If I won the lottery - this is the home I would buy! Needless to say, we have booked again for later this year.

"stunning"

Absolutely stunning spacious property. ideal for whole family of eleven. . Plenty of bedrooms/bathrooms. also space to play for the grandchildren. We really wanted to move in!
Felt like staging a sit-in on the last day and refusing to go home!
Can't think of anything that would make it better. Everything we needed and more besides was provided. Very generous welcome pack. Very helpful owners,
would love to go back if we get the opportunity

"Weekend in Northumberland"

Firstly the property was absolutely spotless. Modern - and slightly ostentatious - Large enough for 12 of us without any problem or feeling claustrophobic.
All facilities (apart from the Jacuzzi bath) were top-quality.
Very quiet and peaceful.

Thanks for your review Jon. We're glad you enjoyed your stay. Unfortunately the jets on 1 of the 3 jacuzzi baths are no longer working and so we only advertise as having 2 jacuzzi baths now. We'll eventually replace this bath with a normal bath, as we've not been able to fix it. thanks
