The Northern England / Northumberland region
Northumbria is a heady combination of fishing villages, market towns, sandy beaches, magnificent castles and historic Hadrian’s Wall, tied together by beautiful countryside and abundant wildlife. Covering 400 square miles, the Northumberland National Park is the least populated of England’s National Parks, much to the benefit of those visitors seeking peace and solitude. Thousands of paths and tracks weave their way through beautiful countryside, providing exhilarating fresh air and wide-open spaces for walkers and cyclists alike. Stay a while, roam the countryside but don’t forget to explore further, because the area known as Northumbria offers much more than just the National Park. Northumbria encompasses County Durham, the Tees Valley and Tyne and Wear, as well as covering the North Pennines ‘Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty’, the World Heritage Site of Hadrian’s Wall, the City of Durham and the Heritage Coastline, boasting a selection of protected golden beaches and tiny fishing villages. Northumberland’s Heritage Coast has mile upon mile of sparkling beaches, rocky coves and picturesque fishing villages. Sweeping from Berwick-upon-Tweed in the north, to Druridge Bay in the south, popular destinations along the coastline include the horseshoe-shaped sandy beach and dunes at Beadnell Bay, the bustling village of Seahouses, with boat trips from the picturesque harbour, and the kipper smokery and coastal path at Craster. Adding to the area’s splendour is a chain of magnificent castles: Alnwick, home to the powerful Percy family and the setting for some of the Harry Potter films; spectacular, medieval Bamburgh, standing high on its rocky outcrop; the brooding ruins of Dunstanburgh and pretty Warkworth.
The Morpeth area
Morpeth is a beautiful little market town and is well placed to reach the countryside or the coast from its central location in the heart of Northumberland. The town has plenty to offer such as the ruins of a historic castle, parks, churches and an old chantry that houses a bagpipe museum. Further afield to the south lies the bustling city of Newcastle upon Tyne and northwards is the historic town of Alnwick with its castle and gardens, whilst over to the East, Druridge Bay has miles of glorious golden sands to be enjoyed by the whole family. Close by is the National Trust property of Wallington Hall and all around Morpeth there is good walking country with access to the Cheviot and the Simonside Hills, making this an ideal base for a holiday.

Guestbook for 2116 - Dacre Cottage
Very good value for money, well furnished and spacious.
Miss Sayers, London,
January 2012
,Dacre Cottage was superbly located; at most a 30 minute car journey would take me to Newcastle, Durham, Hadrian's Wall etc. While having a convenient and peaceful base in Morpeth with all the shops and pubs I could have wanted within walking distance.

,This is the second time we have stayed in this cottage. Once again it met all of our expectations and requirements.
Mrs Ruyssevelt, Swindon, Wiltshire

,The central location of Dacre Cottage makes this an ideal venue even when the weather is not so good. It also makes it convenient for walking out to the local pubs and restaurants in the evening.
