BookThe Central England / Cotswolds / Gloucestershire region
The countryside of England and Wales has a rich diversity of scenery, of great value to the nation. In 1949, the Government decided to protect these areas by giving them special status. The wilder, more dramatic landscapes became National Parks; the softer and more intensively farmed were made Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONBs)
The Cotswolds became an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty in 1966. Being an AONB means that the Cotswolds are protected as a very special landscape - a living working landscape - of national importance for everyone to enjoy. It is one of 40 AONBs in England and Wales and the largest, covering 790 sq miles (2,038 sq kms) and 78 miles (126 kms) from north to south.
There are many beautiful villages in the Cotswold to visit such as Broadway, Burford, Burton-on-the-Water, Chipping Campden, Stow-on-the-Wold & Upper/Lower Slaughter to name but a few. In addition there are a wide variety of attractions including many delightful gardens, historic properties/castles and places for children and adults of all ages.
The Moreton-in-Marsh / Bourton-on-the-Hill area
An attractive village, situated less than two miles from the market town of Moreton-in-Marsh. I stayed here with my husband and 3 month old baby and had a wonderful time. The cottage is beautiful and very clean and well equipped. The surrounding area is quiet and peaceful, with an excellent pub a few minutes walk away. |

Slatters cottage is a great little, cosy cottage, It is very clean and very comfortable and we couldn't help but sit mesmerised for hours in front of the wood-burner fire in the lounge. The kitchen has everything you would need to make delicious meals and the big, comfy bed makes for a very good nights sleep. The church clock chiming and the crackle of the fire is all you can hear. It's very romantic- we didn't want to leave!!! It is set in a beautiful location, a 5 min drive from Morton-in-Marsh which has a variety of coffee shops, restaurants, pubs and shopping with a butchers, cheese mongers etc. and a varity of antiques shops to browse. The Horse and Groom pub next door (100m or so walk) is one of the best in the area, serving great food and local ale. There is a lovely country walk, straight from the cottage (with a pub at the end). We have stayed at Slatters cottage twice and we can't wait to go back again. We have already coined it 'our cottage in the Cotswolds'! |
