The Costa Blanca / Valencia / Alicante Province region
The Costa Blanca area of Spain is located approximately half-way along the east coast of Spain and is recognised as being one of the most beautiful regions of the entire Iberian Peninsula. It enjoys more than 315 days sunshine a year so it is easy to see why the World Health Organisation has named it as having one of the healthiest climates in the world. The area is a very popular tourist destination because of its excellent weather and climate and the many superb beaches which stretch for miles and miles along the coast.
One of the good things about holidaying on the Costa Blanca is the different types of places you can visit. There is great variety and each place has something for everyone. For example you can go inland and enjoy the unspoilt 'real' Spain or you can stay on the coast and enjoy the hustle and bustle and nightlife of Benidorm or alternatively within a short distance you can stay on the coast in quaint, quiet fishing villages - the choice is yours!
Moraira / Teulada, Moraira area
Teulada-Moraira being located between sea and mountains. It stands out as one of the most attractive towns on the Costa Blanca, offering one of the best climatic zones on the Mediterranean, where you can enjoy long, warm, sunny days! With its beautiful gothic church dating from the XV century, in honour of the Patron Saint Catalina, its co-operative San Vicente Ferrer, famous for the elaboration of Moscatel (sweet dessert wine) and the prize-winning white wine Marina Alta, is a charming and traditional village that is proud of its historic patrimony.
Teulada is located 1 km from the N-332 between Benissa and Gata de Gorgos. Its port of Moraira is situated 6 km from the town centre. There is a stop here on the Alicante-Dénia railway. Located 75 km from Alicante and 31 km from Benidorm.
Teulada was a village populated by 52 old Christian families and dedicated to growing Muscatel grapes and raisins. The villagers built a beautiful late-Gothic church in honour of the patron saint, St Catalina. Prehistoric man, the Iberians and especially the Moors (Benimeit, Benimarco and Alcasar are rural sections of Teulada) all left remains in this coastal area. Teulada became a walled village that was located slightly away from the coast for fear of Berber pirate attacks. As the village was near the coast, it was also a fishing village. Today both agriculture and fishing have given way to the tourism industry.
Wander in the shade of olive trees, where vineyards lie alongside plantations of oranges and almonds, and the heady aroma of pine sap emanates from the abundant pine trees typical of this idyllic region, and you could quickly lose yourself in the beauty of the surroundings.
Whenever you go walking around Teulada, you will always pass by the Riu-Raus. These are arched constructions where the locally picked raisins are laid out to dry. The dried fruit is used, amongst other things, to make the sweet local drink Moscatel. If you were to suddenly see a donkey and cart accompanied by a farmer with a straw hat pass by a Riu-Rau, you would feel sure that you had stepped back in time.
The San Vicente Ferrer Cooperative produces excellent award-winning wines with its Teulada grapes - i.e. the Marina Alta White and Muscatel. The Marina Alta White is made with Muscat grapes, which gives it an aromatic and fruity taste and, even though it is a white wine, it is very sweet. The Muscatel is made with Muscatel Romanao grapes, which are considered one of the best varieties of grapes in the world, and the taste of the wine is reminiscent of the grape. Both wines can be purchased in the wine cellars.
As Teulada is a working town, there are fewer tourist attractions than Moraira has to offer. There are, however, a few worthy of note:-
Market day is on a Wednesday and is located just a five minute walk from the apartment. The market provides an excellent opportunity to stock up on wide range of goods; leather and lace being a local speciality. If you miss the market on a Wednesday, it visits Moraira on a Friday, so don’t panic!
Teulada is ideally situated for exploring the surrounding towns and villages such as Valencia, Denia and Javea to the north, and Calpe, Altea and Alicante to the south. A trip to the region should not be completed without a day out to Altea (a half hour drive from Teulada).
Inland areas also worth visiting are the glorious Jalon Valley and surrounding mountain region and Guadalest.
The train station in Teulada (at the bottom of our hill) can take you up and down the coast. It is well worth the couple of euros a ticket costs. If you are interested, take a trip to the station a day or two before you plan to travel to check on train times etc.

Guestbook for Casita Teulada
Stunning apartment! Very impressed with the decor. Teulada is a beautiful little town - we stocked up in the market and enjoyed watching the world go by, sat in the square. Already booked again for 2009. Thanks Grant and Jo. Claire and Dave B.
You told us we'd enjoy ourselves, you told us the food was great, you told us the beach was stunning, but you didn't tell us about the patisserie around the corner in Teulada - what an absolute gem!We bought fresh bread for breakfast and cakes for the afternoon most days. The return flight came around too soon. B&C, Swindon
Moraira beach is lovely, but we preferred El Portet just around the corner. A lovely little beach, sloping gently into the sea, with michelin starred restaurant to boot! Enjoyed local wine bought from the bodega with our barbecue on the roof terrace as we watched the sun go down. Mongto (the mountain) turned pink. Fab time. Pete and Tanya, London.
