The Costa Blanca / Valencia / Alicante Province region

GENERAL AREA INFORMATION

The Costa Blanca is not as cold or wet in the winter as the Costa Brava, north of Costa Blanca, nor is it as humid or hot in the summer as the Costa del Sol, in the south. The Costa Blanca has the best all year round temperatures.

The climate is recognised as one of the best in the world by the World Health Organisation. Many people with arthritis come to the Costa Blanca and within days feel much better. In the winter months the Costa Blanca is lucky enough to have nearly as many sunny days as in the summertime.

The Costa Blanca has over 100 kms of sandy beaches and rocky coves and many of the beaches have the coveted European Blue Flag signifying cleanliness and safe bathing. The northern Costa Blanca is typically mountainous with cliffs and coves, a mixture of pebble beaches and fine sandy beaches.

MORAIRA

Moraira is in a lush valley planted with vines. The Mountains behind the town are dramatic with orange groves and almond trees in the foothills. The coast is rocky but with sandy coves and lovely coastal footpaths. The hustle & bustle and drama of the coast sits in with the complete contrast of the tranquillity and tradition of the countryside just a few kilometres inland. This quality of life is incomparable in Europe.
Moraira has grown from a fishing village to a small but exclusive year-round holiday destination popular with visitors from across Europe. There is now an impressive marina packed with yachts and a large variety of restaurants, bars and shops to satisfy the tastes of visitors and residents alike. Strict planning laws have prevented the building of high rise hotel and apartment blocks which has resulted in Moraira retaining the charm of its fishing village heritage and sets it apart from other Costa Blanca resorts.

DENIA and JAVEA

Dénia is a coastal city located to the north of the province of Alicante and has a 20-kilometre coastline, made of small, beautiful coves. To the north there are the fine sandy beaches of Les Marines and Les Bovetes and the shingle beaches of Les Deveses and L' Almadrava beaches, which are craggy and rocky; to the south is the Les Rotes beach. Though the beaches are long, they are not enormous and generally appeal to family-type tourism. A picturesque town 20 minutes drive from the apartment through the Montgo National Park, Javea has much to offer. Spread out over a large area, there are coves to discover, cultural and historical sites and wonderful walks. The town is divided into three distinct sections. There is the old town, with its narrow cobbled streets and its monuments of Spanish history and culture. The port area is still a working fishing port and is a delightful place to visit with its mixture of fish markets and seafront bars and cafes. Local Tourist Attractions The terrain of the Montgo and Jalon valleys provide the perfect environment for mountain biking and walking. The stunning waterfalls at the Fonts d'Algar are a 30 minute drive from the apartment. The area also has a superb camp site and several restaurants and cafes. Valencia is an hour away by car or an hour and half by train from Gandia (30 minutes from the apartment). Enjoy a day of shopping around the variety of markets and boutiques or simply spend the day exploring the city and its museums. Ibiza and Majorca are both just a short ferry ride away with crossings leaving Denia harbour daily.

Moraira / Pinar de l'Advocat area

Not far from Moraira you will find the villages of Calpe and Altea, each with its own unique character, Calpe has some of the best beaches with facilities for all, including disabled access to the sea, funfairs for the children, and a vast range of shopping arcades filled with the best of Spanish crafts, Altea is one of the most beautiful towns virtually untouched by tourism due to its unique coastal position. Benidorm with all of its famous nightlife & theme parks is just 15 minutes away.

For the sporty there is cycling, walking, scuba diving, tennis, 6 golf courses within 30 minutes drive and much more all just a few kilometres away.

For the younger end we have the attractions of Mundomar sea world, Aqualandia water park, and Terra Mitica theme park, only a short drive away, or why not hop over to Ibiza from the port at Denia. Whatever you want from a holiday, Moraira has it all.

Moraira Fiestas

Moraira, like many Spanish towns, hosts many different fiestas throughout the year. The most famous is the 'Moors and Christians' festival, usually held over the 3rd weekend in June. The elaborate customs and parades are a real spectacle. You will be astonished that a small town such as this, can stage such a grand and marvelous event. The Patron Saint fiestas in July are colourful and noisy, and culminate in a huge, spectacular firework display.
