TERRA MITICA THEME PARK, TERRA NATURA WILDLIFE PARK, AQUALANDIA WATER PARK, & MUNDOMAR (dolphin & sea lion shows) are all located here. Great fun for all ages! Also BENIDORM PALACE for a good meal, flamenco cabaret, & dancing.
CALPE (25 mins drive): Rock of Ifach - a bird/wildlife sanctuary - & Las Salinas Salt Lakes - where pink flamingos congregate. There is also an interesting port area that has some fantastic fish restaurants.
ALTEA (30 mins drive): A coastal town with its own fishing fleet & dating back to 1562. Old town is very quaint & has many good restaurants.
VALENCIA (1 hour's drive north): Spain's 3rd largest city & thought to be more than 2000 years old, and a former Moorish capital. Sights include the Cathedral, the Silk Exchange, Ceramic Museum, & numerous art galleries. Sophisticated shops & magnificent covered food market. Don't miss the futuristic Science & Arts Museum.
JALON VALLEY (30 mins drive inland): Fabulous scenery & unspoiled Spanish villages. Here you can see how rural life in Spain has remained unchanged for centuries. Famed for its wine production. From the vantage point of Coll de Rates, it's possible to see the whole valley and, on a clear day, the island of Ibiza.
GUADALEST: A mountain village 25kms inland from Benidorm - the 2nd most photographed place in Spain! The views from here are stunning. Built by the Moors to defend themselves from invasion, it is entered by going through a hole in the cliff face. Fonts D'algar: Situated on the way back from Guadalest - cascading waterfalls & fresh water pools where you can have a welcome swim after a hot day!
AMENITIES: Within a few minutes walk, there are restaurants/bars (one with its own swimming pool), and a well-stocked supermarket and pharmacy. Beautiful beach, excellent selection of bars & restaurants, & lively shopping area, including a market on Friday mornings. On summer evenings, a small craft market is held in the town, and there is often live music in the main square - lovely to listen to whilst you are eating al-fresco at one of the restaurants that surround the square. In mid-June, the town stages its annual "Moors & Christians" fiesta which is spectacular. It includes a "battle" around the castle, and culminates in a grand parade with fantastic costumes and floats. Not to be missed!
JAVEA (15 mins drive): A fascinating mix of old & new - lovely beach, huge choice of restaurants in the port area, and an un-spoilt old town which is fun to explore.
BENITACHELL & TEULADA (both 10 mins drive): Small typical Spanish towns with narrow streets full of pretty houses. Both have a street market on Wednesday mornings.

We stayed here in July 2013. During our stay the cheap fridge door shelf gave way under the weight of two bottles of milk and some orange juice. We explained this to the property manager, but unfortunately she chose to retain part of our security deposit. This was very frustrating as we had made an effort to leave the property clean and in good condition. The property manager was rude and unhelpful, accusing us of 'causing a great trauma to the fridge!'. She charged us four times what I suspect a replacement fridge shelf would cost and threatened to charge us for "a maintenance man to fit the replacement fridge door shelf" (even tho it just slotted into place!). I imagine they are looking for any reason to keep hold of your security deposit which is disappointing.
Other than that, the property was a little disappointing. In July 2013 it look quite jaded compared to the photos on the holiday letting website. The settees, kitchen and bathroom were quite grubby and in need of renovation. Also, the property is right over the road from some open space which is used by a large number of cats, who used a number of the local properties gardens as litter trays. This meant that the house smelled of cat mess, especially on the small garden balcony.... not ideal when your trying to enjoy a BBQ! The outside spaces were also very cramped and overtaken a little by the plants.
Overall I would not recommend this place. Cumbre del sol is a lovely place and our kids loved the pool. There are hundreds of properties in the area which I would choose instead of this one in future.
I was contacted by the renter by email the day after he left the property informing me that they had had a great time and that the house was perfect for them.
However, once the property was inspected, it was found that significant damage had been done to the fridge (photographs were taken). The renter had not reported this to the housekeeping staff, left any kind of note in the property, or mentioned this in his email.
Contrary to the renter's claim, he was only charged for the part (no labour). In fact it has now transpired that he was slightly under-charged - and he will be provided with a detailed receipt in due course. The remainder of his security deposit was promptly refunded. From my point of view, this was handled politely and professionally.
I am therefore at a complete loss to understand why he has subsequently chosen to submit such a review, which seems to entirely contradict his original communication.
We have never had any complaints about cleanliness, smell of cats, or overgrown plants. Had this been the case, all that was needed was a telephone call to the housekeeper who would have immediately remedied any issues he may have had.
The owner of this property is very particular about maintenance and upkeep. It is beautifully maintained, extremely clean, and the photos – taken earlier this year - are entirely accurate. Furthermore, the owner goes out of his way to ensure that his house is indeed perfect (as per this renter's original communication to me).

"Very beautiful and cozy Town House with sea sight!"
The Casa Elena was a really beautiful place to stay for our holidays! The house was very nice and quiet and we enjoyed the sea sight very much. Although we haven't met the owner, there were no problems with the check in and handing over the keys. The only thing which one should additionally be expected, are the extra bank charges if you pay in Euros! - that's because you pay to a pound bank account.
