The Valenciana region

BENIDORM: (approx. 45 mins drive): Major tourist resort, very commercial, lots of shops, the best beaches in Europe, and unrivaled nightlife. TERRA MITICA THEME PARK, TERRA NATURA WILDLIFE PARK, AQUALANDIA WATER PARK, & MUNDOMAR (dolphin & sea lion shows) are all located here. Great fun for all ages! Also BENIDORM PALACE for a good meal, flamenco cabaret, & dancing.

CALPE (25 mins drive): Rock of Ifach - a bird/wildlife sanctuary - & Las Salinas Salt Lakes - where pink flamingos congregate. There is also an interesting port area with some fantastic fish restaurants, a huge choice of other restaurants in the town, lots of shops, and large sandy beaches which stretch out either side of the Rock and have attractive promenades.

ALTEA (30 mins drive): A coastal town with its own fishing fleet & dating back to 1562. Old town is very quaint & has many good restaurants and unusual shops. There is a superb market on Tuesdays mornings.

VALENCIA (1 hour's drive north): Spain's 3rd largest city & thought to be more than 2000 years old, and a former Moorish capital. Sights include the Cathedral, the Silk Exchange, Ceramic Museum, & numerous art galleries. Sophisticated shops & magnificent covered food market. Don't miss the futuristic Science & Arts Museum.

JALON VALLEY (30 mins drive inland): Fabulous scenery & unspoiled Spanish villages. Here you can see how rural life in Spain has remained unchanged for centuries. Famed for its wine production. From the vantage point of Coll de Rates, it's possible to see the whole valley and, on a clear day, the island of Ibiza.

GUADALEST: A mountain village 25kms inland from Benidorm - the 2nd most photographed place in Spain! The views from here are stunning. Built by the Moors to defend themselves from invasion, it is entered by going through a hole in the cliff face.

FONTS D'ALGAR: Situated on the way back from Guadalest - cascading waterfalls & fresh water pools where you can have a welcome swim after a hot day!

NEARBY AMENITIES: On the urbanisation of Cumbre del Sol, there is the delightful "La Cumbre restaurant" with a separate bar, its own pool & stunning sea views. This has long been a favourite with residents & holidaymakers alike. There is also a well-stocked supermarket, and pharmacy (all 2 mins drive). The village of Benitachell (5 mins drive at the base of the mountain) has a variety of bars and restaurants to choose from including Chinese, Italian, traditional Spanish & international.

NEARBY BEACHES: The villa is a few minutes drive from the secluded beach on Cumbre del Sol, and 10 mins drive from the beaches at Moraira (wide, sandy beach) and El Portet (sandy, picturesque bay with wonderful views). They all have restaurants & full facilities. Javea is 15 mins drive, has large, sandy beaches & a huge choice of restaurants. In addition, there are many unspoiled coves & viewpoints to discover within easy driving distance.

ACTIVITIES: There are an abundance of activities available locally including water sports, boat trips, golf, tennis, cycle hire, horse riding, fishing, and go-karting.

GOLF: Javea Golf Club is just a few minutes drive, and there are also golf courses between Moraira and Calpe (10 mins drive) and Denia (20 mins drive).

MORAIRA (10 mins drive): Formerly a small fishing village - now an up-market town retaining a village atmosphere. Beautiful beaches, excellent selection of bars & restaurants to suit all tastes & budgets, & lively shopping area, including a market on Friday mornings. On summer evenings, a small craft market is held in the town, and there is often live music in the main square - lovely to listen to whilst you are eating al-fresco at one of the restaurants that surround the square. In mid-June, the town stages its annual "Moors & Christians" fiesta which is spectacular. It includes a "battle" around the castle, and culminates in a grand parade with fantastic costumes and floats. Not to be missed!

JAVEA (15 mins drive): A fascinating mix of old & new. The town is split into 3 areas: The Arenal - which has a huge, crescent-shaped sandy beach, and many restaurants & late-night bars/nightclubs along the promenade, the sophisticated Port area with its sea-front restaurants, and the unspoilt Old Town which is great fun to explore.

BENITACHELL & TEULADA ( 5 & 10 mins drive): Small, typical Spanish villages with narrow streets full of pretty houses, and a street markets on Wednesday mornings. These villages are not tourist traps, and the ideal place for mixing with the locals in their many cafes, bars and restaurants serving both local and international cuisine.

DENIA (25 mins drive): Historic major town, a castle proudly surveying the port, and good beaches. You can drive to Denia over the Montgo (Sleeping Elephant) Mountain which is a national park.

"There are much better villas than this."

Villa location offers great views but a hillside location meant there were no pleasant walks to be enjoyed.Local amenities were sparse and you needed to drive - even the dustbins were a drive away. Vi… More

The above review must be read with the knowledge that these guests left the villa excessively dirty (causing extra cost to the owner in cleaning time) and also demanded £200 in compensation because of the breakdown of the dishwasher, which was in full working order before their arrival. Needless to say, the owner denied their request. During their stay, the housekeeping team bent over backwards to try to satisfy this family. A technician was called immediately the fault with the dishwasher was reported, but it was found that a new machine was required. Despite all efforts, it unfortunately proved impossible to replace the machine during their stay as it was an integrated appliance which had to be placed on order.

The villa is beautifully appointed & equipped with everything you could possibly need to comfortably accommodate 8 people, but this family even complained about the weather! Unfortunately, the fortnight they booked was unseasonably windy across the entire region. Whilst the location is quiet, it is not isolated - there are restaurants, bars & a supermarket within a few mins drive, and the bustling town of Moraira is less than 10 mins drive. This is all clearly indicated on the advert. I have to disagree entirely that the bed linen is cheap. A complete set of towels for each person were provided, and all the towels and bed linen were changed after the first week. If 2 sets of cutlery had mysteriously gone missing, I fail to understand why this was not mentioned to the housekeeping team, as this would have been remedied immediately. The kitchen has an extractor, the kitchen/living area is completely open plan, has large doors opening onto the terrace, and is also fully air-conditioned, so I am at a loss to understand why they found it insufferably hot in the kitchen area. The window in question is very small and has been closed off for security reasons, and this was explained to them at the time.

Their security deposit was returned in full (even though the owner could have made a deduction for the extra cleaning required) and well within the time span of 14 days after their return home, as clearly stated in our Terms & Conditions.

As the photos will testify, the owner has gone to great lengths to ensure that this is truly a beautiful home, and spends a great deal of time there himself with family & friends. In fact, there are very few rental villas which achieve this high standard of accommodation & facilities. I can therefore only surmise that the negative comments these guests have made are purely because their unreasonable request for compensation re. the dishwasher breakdown was denied.
