Enquire nowThe Costa Blanca / Valencia / Alicante Province region
Whether you are young or old, seeking nightlife, relaxation, culture or activity fueled holidays the Costa Blanca overall boasts a scene for the enjoyment of tourists. Over the centuries several civilizations have descended upon Spain inspiring and moulding the region to as we know it. During the latter years it is tourism that have predominantly sculpted the area transforming the likes of small fishing villages or agricultural land into picturesque hubs tailored to the requirements of holiday makers. Today, the Costa Blanca is a popular tourist destination due to its stunning beaches, great weather, rich history, traditional Spanish towns and scenic mountainous backdrops. Situated on the south east coast of Spain, the 'White Coast' offers over 200km of coastline, providing some of the best beaches in Spain from small rugged coves to large blue flagged sandy beaches. During the summer months the popular beaches are cleaned daily, have a life guard on duty and most tend to have a (if not several) lovely beachside bar or restaurant. Whilst the Costa Blanca offers something for everyone it has, on average, over 300 days of sun per year which perhaps is the number one attraction to the area. The climate has mild Mediterranean winter temperatures and hot summers with little rain. On average the temperature ranges from 16°C in January to 30°C in August making it a year round perfect destination for those seeking a sun filled and enjoyable holiday.
The Moraira area
The apartment is situated on the Benissa coast between Calpe and Moraira, about 5km in each direction. The closest beach (pebbled) is a mere 10 minutes walk away and many of the local small coves offer some of the most rugged and spectacular views on the Spanish coastline. There is also a stunning coastal walk from here into Calpe with a couple of great bars dotted along the way. The most beautiful blue flagged sandy beaches are situated at Moraira, Calpe or the exclusive El Portet which are all within a 15 minute drive and have ample car parking. Within a five minute walk from here there is an hourly bus service (approx. 2 euros) that takes you to Calpe or Moraira. Town planning has put a stop to high rise building within the Benissa coast and the surrounding hills are dotted with whitewashed villas and sea views making it a very picturesque suburb within Moraira. Moraira and Calpe are small coastal towns with everything you would expect to find in a holiday resort. Beaches, bars, international restaurants, local markets, supermarkets, Bodegas, nightclubs, water sports, scuba diving, golf courses, go- karting, bowling, harbours and so forth, with more of the same spread along the main road linking both towns. Heading away from the coast leads you to older typically Spanish towns steeped with history, splendid architecture and traditional Spanish tapas bars. Well worth a visit particularly when fiesta time! Those of you wishing to travel further afield are well positioned for Javea, Denia or Altea which are larger coastal towns or if you are looking for a bit of sightseeing then the light house at Cap La Nao, Cumbre del sol, Guadalest, Granadella or the Algar water fountains would rate top of my list and all are within a 30 minute drive. Benidorm is about a 35 minute drive away and offers not only long sandy beaches but several fun attractions for the whole family such as Benidorm Palace, a shopping mall, Medieval show, Terra Mitica, Aqualandia, Terra Natura and Mundamar. Spain is renowned for its fiery fiestas and great nightlife and the entertainment provided by Benissa and its neighbouring towns do not disappoint. In addition to the normal religious celebrations, there are several fiestas held throughout the year such as the Moors and Christians, The Three Kings procession or Saints day which are held by each town throughout the year and usually involve a mix of spectacular fireworks, large Paella's, Flamenco dancing, parades, bull runs, alfresco dining and lots of 'vino'. All information for local attractions and dates for festivals can be found at the local tourist information centers or online. At the Villa you will find a booklet with useful information and recommendations for the local areas.

After returning from our uber chill out girly break, we were eager to tell people how much we enjoyed it. It was a fairly last minute booking and thankfully, after we all picked (6 girls) Casa don Simon we were thankful there was availability for the dates we specified for our long weekend - Saturday to Tuesday. Sarah handled our many queries before arriving with a helpful ease so we were already relaxed on our flight out there. She helped us with recommendations for transportation to and from the airport which made the journey super easy. As soon as we arrived we changed straight in to our bikini's and headed to the pool, the pool area was perfect, with special touches such as a pool waterfall that you could turn on, night time lights, Moroccan chill out area and a hidden favourite - sunbeds all with a little pull-out shelf, great for putting your sangria on! The 3 bedrooms were all a nice size with comfortable beds, and space to hang our clothes on the hangers provided (that we managed to squeeze in to our carry on!) there were also fans in each room to keep us cool through the night. The slate style of bathroom gave off an opulent feel, and the walk-in shower was just what was needed after a day of sunbathing. The kitchen was a nice size with all the required utilities and a large fridge which managed to fit all our bags full of shopping! Having carefully planned our shopping list when getting our items from the local supermarket we settled in the BBQ area for our 2nd night meal. The area was ideal in the evening as our whole group of six could easily sit round the bench style dining table. There was also a darts board for anyone competitive. Surprisingly there were 5 areas where you could choose to eat; inside dining section, veranda, Moroccan area, garden, BBQ area, so you were spoilt for choice. The garden area also included herbs you were able to help yourselves to, we especially enjoyed the mint for our sangria, rosemary for our pasta and the lime tree perfect for our drinks. There was a lovely coastal walk nearby with little bars / places to eat on the way, on the day we ventured out we eventually stopped to have some traditional paella then took a dip in the lovely clear sea. For those of you not keen on utilising the kitchen you are easily able to get a taxi in to the local town around 10 minutes away where there were an array of restaurants. Sarah was extremely helpful and did everything she could to ensure we had a great holiday, we all had such a lovely time at Casa don Simon and would love to return one day! |

We have just returned from two wonderful weeks at Casa don Simon. We are a family of 4 with twin boys aged 9. The villa is located just off the coastal road - an ideal location to explore the beautiful coastline with many coves and beaches. It is also a 10 minute drive to Moraira which has excellent shops and restaurants. Sarah and her family were very welcoming and were always on hand if we needed anything. The villa is extremely well furnished and very comfortable. It really is a home from home. We loved the swimming pool which was just what we needed after our days out site seeing. This area of Spain is beautiful with some very dramatic mountain scenery. It is worth visiting the waterfalls at the Fonts de L'Algar where you can swim in the cold crystal clear water. Also worth a visit is Guadelest, a picturesque mountain top village. You will need to be fit for this as it is a steep climb but well worth it as the views over the surrounding mountains and turquoise reservoir are stunning. There is a 10 pin bowling alley 15 minutes drive away which the boys particulary enjoyed. There is also a crazy golf course. Just outside Benidorm are the aqua parks - about a 45 minute drive. Good fun for all. Worth seeking out discount vouchers though if you do decide to go as they are quite expensive. There are lots of good local restaurants that are family friendly. We particularly liked The Lowry, The Olive Tree and Le Soleil. The villa is also well equipped for cooking and there is a BBQ outside. All in all a fabulous villa and wonderful location. We would certainly return. |
