About the home
The pool and balcony area is completely private, facing South to get the sun, and with fantastic views towards Calpe rock. This creates a relaxing ambience for adults even when children are splashing about in the pool. It is an individual villa and not on an urbanization. Shops and a quiet sandy beach are within 5 minutes walk so you don't have to use the car if you don't want to.
Upstairs comprises lounge, dining room, kitchen, WC and main Air-Conditioned bedroom with en suite. Downstairs there are two twin bedrooms and a bathroom.
It took 5 years and more than 250 viewings before we found this plot.
I walk down to the supermarket each morning to get fresh bread and a paper and then go back to sit on the naya (patio) to have breakfast, read the paper and generally absorb the ambience. We look out over the local valley where lots of trees add harmony to the view. Our own olive and palm trees rustle in the breeze and add to the feeling of calm.
In the late afternoon we often walk down to the beach bar at la Fustera beach for a drink and a snack.
Its a hard life but somebody has to live it.
If we want more action we drive to either Moraira or Calpe where there are lots of shops, restaurants and beaches.
The villa was finished in 2008. It is not on an urbanisation and doesn't overlook one either. There are places around here where all you can see is concrete and that wasn't for us. We look out South to Calpe rock and the kitchen looks west towards the Bernia mountains where occasionally tremendous electrical storms can be seen and definitely heard. Not to be confused with the Spanish love of very loud fireworks which appear at every fiesta.

The Costa Blanca / Valencia / Alicante Province region

Northern Costa Blanca has one of the healthiest climates in the world according to the World Health Organisation. It averages 324 days of sunshine per year. The area has many contrasts. It is definitely hilly which is why you get some great viewpoints and interesting scenery.
This means there are very few straight roads and many coves and inlets between the towns. A majority of these boast clean and quiet sandy beaches and in the summer months there might even be a place to buy drinks and snacks.
In contrast as you approach Valencia (about 50 minutes to the North) you drive through rice fields which are absolutely pancake flat. These are why Valencia is the spiritual home of the paella. The locals speak Valenciano but also Spanish and often English too. It is possible to get by without any Spanish, the locals don't mind. http://www.comunitatvalenciana.com/ for more information and local webcams.
The Moraira / Fanadix area
The villa is in La Fustera district approx midway between Moraira and Calpe.
Moraira is a beautiful fishing/yachting town nestling at the tip of the Cap d'Or peninsular. An elegant sophisticated place surrounded by mountains, and a beautiful coastline, it has an abundance of restaurants and bars to suit all budgets and all tastes and a lovely sandy beach. What's more it has a large free carpark! Very useful in August.
Calpe, very different in character, yet boasting a fishing port, a really old historic centre, has, like Moraira, beautiful blue-flag beaches. A 20 minute drive inland, however, will place you in Benissa, gateway to the Jalon Valley, renowned for vineyards, orange and almond groves. The old town square in the centre of Benissa is a delight and not touristy at all. Inland there is the almond and grape growing Jalon valley. Go to the bodega in jalon with your own bottle and buy good wine for 60 cents a litre!
Although a world away, Benidorm is only half an hour away by motorway. We have never been there. The historic city of Valencia, with its new harbour for the America's Cup yacht race, the Formula One grand prix and more shoe shops than Imelda Marcos could want, is just over an hour away by car.
10 mins walk from the villa, along the coastal footpath is Las Bassetes cove where there is a good watersports centre and a great cafe/bar.
Every town has its Moors vs Christians fiesta when the whole place turns out to dance drink and generally party. Not to be missed.
If you have any specific hobbies you want to pursue don't hesitate to ask us about them because we know the area well.

We stayed at Villa Campanula for 1 week in August, and had the most fantastic time. The Villa is located no more than 1 - 1.30 hour from Alicante Airport and was very straight forward to find, following the owners detailed instructions. The VIlla has been decorated to a high standard and is very well looked after by its owners, we particularly like the ensuite bathroom off the master bedroom, and also how open plan the living space is, not that you spend much time inside! Because of this and having its own pool we spent a lot of time relaxing by the pool, reading, swimming, eating delicious food outside and generally being very lazy! If you want to explore further afield, the Villa is well located to visit a number of local coastal towns,e.g. Calpe & Moraira, or you can go inland and explore some real traditional Spanish villages. There is a wonderful coastal walk you can follow which brings you to a small harbour with a good restaurant which serves local dishes as well as the more main stream, there were a large number of Spanish eating there which is always a good sign. We walked to the beach at La Fustera, it was very clean and the sea was very safe, perfect for children! The beach is not that wide so your children would never be far from your view! As the Villa is so well equipped we ate in on a couple of occasions, if you need to buy supplies, there is a small local supermarket walking distance of the Villa, but there is also a much larger one on the way to Moraira, 5/10 minutes by car from the Villa, this has everything you would need if you wanted to be totally self catering. The Villa also has a BBQ! We also sampled a number of excellent restaurants in Moraira. There are pleanty to choose from, Tapas,Paella, Bistro, Italian, Indian, Chinese, Fine Dining, something for everyone really. What we loved most about Moraira was even though it was August and it was busy with lots of holidaymakers, it retains a certain classiness, we also spent a weekend there in December when it was relatively quiet and loved it just as much then. You do need a car to get around, although there is public transport close by and there are always taxis! All in all we had a fabulous holiday which delivered exactly what we wanted. We would definately go back! Although it was just me and my husband on this occasion, we felt it would be great for our teenage children too! |
