The Costa Blanca (White Coast) is now one of the most cosmopolitan areas in Europe, having a coastline of over 200 kms and made up of some of the finest beaches on the Mediterranean.
Many of these beaches, including the ones around Moraira, enjoy a 'blue flag' status - the highest award that can be given within the EU.
However, just a short drive inland and you'll find hillsides covered with terraced vineyards and lush-green citrus orchards, a legacy of the agricultural traditions of the area, and dotted with charming villages full of narrow streets and flower-filled squares.
The Costa Blanca region of Spain also has one of the best climates in the world as defined by the UN's World Health Organisation. Enjoying on average over 300 days of sunshine a year, summer temperatures rarely fall below 30C whilst winters are typically very mild with average temperatures around 18C.
Cumbre Del Sol, the "Mountain of Sun", is perfectly situated for access to the best resorts on the Costa Blanca, being just 3 kilometres from the "jewels" of Moraira and Javea and a short drive from the cosmopolitan towns of Calpe and Denia. The sea and panoramic views from Cumbre Del Sol are breathtaking and on most days you can see the Balearic Islands across the water. Cumbre Del Sol Beach, a 1.5 kilometre drive down a picturesque craggy road, is a lovely sandy beach complete with bar and glorious views.

The coastal town of Moraira is part of the municipality of Teulada. It has lots of shops bars & restaurants also some nice beaches.
In earlier times the centres of population were situated away from the coasts to offer some protection from marauding pirates and invaders - Romans, Moors, Berbers etc.
Moraira developed as the fishing port for Teulada, and both the lookout tower (Torre-vigia) on Cap d'Or overlooking Moraira's El Portet beach, and the Castle are reminders of the past. In more recent times this quiet and peaceful fishing port has become a busy yet pleasant resort.
Javea itself is a small, historic town , free of high rise buildings offering a relaxing holiday and contact with a friendly and forthcoming local population.
Javea old town is steeped in history, with Tosca stone porticoes, Gothic bay windows, wrought iron window bars and balcony railings.
The Arenal beach area is the commercial and tourist part of Javea.
The Moraira / Cumbre del Sol area
In Cumbre Del Sol there is a horse riding centre and tennis courts.
The tourist office offers free guided walks of the area in English and Spanish during the summer.
Also in summer, pleasure boats sail between Cabo San Antonio and Denia up to 3 times a day.
There are a number of activities for children in the Benidorm area which include Mundomar Marine Park, Aqualandia Water Park and Terra Mitica 'historical' theme park.
El Vergel safari park is 20 minutes north .In Cumbre Del Sol there is a horse riding centre,tennis courts.and go-karting tracks.
Valencia City is well worth a visit for the Central Market, and the 'Oceanographic (spectacular aquarium) that forms part of the City of Arts and Sciences.
Golfing Activities
Within 7 minutes drive of the villa is Javea Golf Club situated between Moraira and Javea and is open all year round. The course is a 9 hole, par 72 and 3,035 metres. The course is easy to play and relatively flat. Other facilities include: driving range, putting green, heated swimming pool, club bar and restaurant.
La Sella Golf Club is 15 minutes drive inland near the village of Jesus Pobre. The course has 18 holes, par 72 and is 6,029 metres. The course although flat has many trees and water obstacles. This is a private members club open to the public. Facilities include: driving range, putting green, motorised trolleys, club bar, lounge bar, restaurant and swimming pool.
Both Javea and La Sella clubs have tennis and squash courts. Within a half hour drive north in Oliva is Oliva Nova Golf Club, designed by Seve Ballesteros. This testing course 18 holes, par 72 and 7,051 metres. The club has a shop, driving range, restaurant, swimming pool and fitness centre.

We had a great holiday in the Moraira area. The apartment is one of many in a large development of similar apartments and villas in Cumbre del Sol which is up a very steep hill with stunning views of the locality. The apartment has everything you need in order to have a relaxing break. It was great to have pool towels, sun-loungers, parasol and floats for the pool/beach provided as well as the necessary cleaning products, take away menus and guides to the area. The main bedroom had plenty storage and a comfortable double bed. The second bedroom was small and very warm at night though our children seemed to sleep well. Jenny was on hand to assist with any advice needed which was reassuring too. The pool area was never excessively busy and our children had a super time often staying there until sunset. The pool bar was useful for drinks and snacks but other amenities within the development have closed. The nearest supermarket is approximately a 10 minute drive back down the hill. This was probably the best value for money, selling local meats and seafood and used by many local people. Some others we went to were geared towards British clientele selling typical brand names at inflated prices. There are many beautiful beaches in the area - we used Playa de la Fustera which wasn't as busy as Moraira and El Portet and had parking, a cafe/bar and toilets next to the beach. We visited many other towns both inland and along the coast. We would recommend Altea and Javea which were both peaceful and tranquil with a lovely front for walking along and a good selection of shops and restaurants, as well as the typical Spanish old town to wander through. We would recommend this apartment and location to families, small groups and couples looking for a relaxing break. You definitely need a car. Even if you don't want to explore the region, it is essential for trips to the supermarket or local restaurants in Moraira. We loved it and would definitely stay here again. |
