The Asturias region

The Costa Blanca coastline stretches nearly 200 miles south from Valencia with numerous accessible 'Blue Flag' beaches and other more secluded coves below the cliffs. Inland the area is mountainous with old towns, which have changed little over the centuries. In the foothills the land is covered with olive groves, vines, almonds and particularly oranges for which the whole of the region is famous.

Costa Blanca is renowned for its agreeable Mediterranean climate with warm summers, mild winters and more than 300 days sunshine a year. The microclimate on the Moraira/Javea peninsula is claimed to be one of the healthiest in Europe.

Moraira lies in the middle of the Costa Blanca and is therefore ideal for seeing more of the area. In the North is the major city of Valencia, the third largest city in Spain, with Roman origins and now a fantastic blend of old and new. Alicante, also Roman, but with stronger Moorish influences, is dominated by the castle high on a hill above the modern port. For a different sort of Spain, Benidorm is only 30 minutes by car, with theme parks, water parks, miles of beaches etc. Inland there are beautiful mountain roads with stunning vistas, where you can easily get away from it all. Nearer to home Calpe, Javea, Altea and the Jalon Valley all have their unique attractions

Mora, Asturias

El Portet is a secluded bay on the headland overlooking Moraira and Calpe. It is quiet by comparison to other nearby coastal spots, as it is on a no-through road. The beach is the best in Moraira and is perfectly safe for children as it shelves very gently. The seafront is not over-commercialised as there are just 2 bars serving coffee, drinks and simple, but good food, right on the water's edge. El Portet has 2 other restaurants, one serving excellent Spanish food and good pizza at very reasonable prices, the other, high on the cliff above the bay, is one of the best restaurants on the Costa Blanca - ideal for that special occasion. There is also a small mini-market and an English-speaking chemist in the village. The seafront is just 10 minutes walk from the villa or a short ride downhill in the car.

On the clifftop above El Portet is an old pirate lookout, known locally as the Pepper Pot. You can climb to the top and although the last half mile is a bit rocky, it is well worth it for the views and the fresh air. On a clear day you can see the outline of Ibiza - 40 miles away.

The main town of Moraira is just over a mile from the villa. If you can, walk there at least once. It is a beautiful walk along the cliff top, through the landscaped park and above the marina with great views the whole way and takes about 25 minutes. You can always get a cab back!

Moraira, once a small fishing village has developed into a cosmopolitan, up-market town retaining a village atmosphere. There are no high rise developments that have scarred much of the Costas in Spain. Small colourful streets, pavement cafes, a pretty marina, a sandy bay and much more make this a great place to visit for all the family, both during the day and in the evening. There's an excellent selection of bars and restaurants, anything from Indian, Chinese, Japanese, Spanish and international cuisine. The waterfront is dominated by the old castle, which has been restored and looks particularly good at night, when illuminated. Moraira's main beach, L'Ampolla, at the foot of the castle, is an ideal 'family' beach with lots of golden sand and excellent facilities. A traditional weekly market takes place every Friday; besides fresh produce, you can find a large selection of other merchandise such as plants, leather goods, and many other products from local craftsmen. Next to the market is a children's amusement park which is open at night there is a street market most evenings in summer and many local fiesta events, particularly in high season. In summer it is a town of contrasts. A quiet relaxed place during the day, but lots of activity at night, when everybody eats alfresco.

Sporting enthusiasts are well catered for in Moraira. Sailing, fishing, kayaking and scuba diving can all be arranged from the marina. There is a tennis club, a full-size go-kart track and a 10 pin bowling alley in town and two golf courses within 5 miles of the villa.

A little further afield are Javea, Calpe, Benissa, Altea and the Jalon Valley. All within 30 minutes and all having their own unique attractions.

Benidorm is just a 30 minute drive away offering an amazing variety of entertainment and attractions. It boasts some truly spectacular theme parks including Aqualandia and Terra Mitica, which is the largest theme park in Europe, making it one of the most exciting family holiday destinations in Europe!

"All you can possibly look for in a charming summer house rental!"

We stayed in the house for one week and the only thing we could have possibly think of missing there was more time to enjoy it all. The house has really everything - beautiful and big private pool with mosaic walls offering tons of fun for kids and adults (beginning with water fights and ending with midnight dips), very pretty view of the terrace (the sunsets! oh my!), spacious area for BBQ with mature landscaped garned, enough space for a large family and all water toys / sunbeds you can need. Local beach (no high-rise buildings or industrial tourism) is 10 mins away, but city beach is just 15 min drive further, a beautiful wild and picturesque La Cala beach half an hour away. We never go back to places we've already been too, but this time we're really motivated.

"Perfect - wonderful villa, excellent facilities, beautiful area."

Absolutely beautiful setting, Alison provided everything that we needed for a wonderful holiday. Our group ranged from 16yrs to 72yrs and everybody thoroughly enjoyed their stay. The beach (beautiful, safe and sandy) was a short walk away and there were plenty of things to occupy us, both day and evening. Lovely pool, great facilities - our extended family have been on group holidays for the last 20 years and this was the nicest villa that we've ever hired.

"Fabulous villa for families in wonderful location"

I stayed in Casa Aliber with my family (2 adults, 2 young kids) and friends with a family the same size. The layout of the villa lent itself so well to this mix of guests, with two twin rooms for the four girls, and two double rooms for the adults. Me and my husband had the large suite downstairs which was beautiful, roomy and cool, with a huge family size en-suite and shower room.
The swimming pool and outdoor space was fantastic; the children spent hours in the lovely pool, which was a lovely temperature and well maintained. There were plenty of options for sitting, sunbathing and eating al fresco too.
The lounge and dining room were spacious, enough room for girls wanting to do art and crafts and watch the occasional DVD, when they need some time to cool off from the beach (only a 15 min walk away).
Our favourite space in the villa, had to be the "Upper Naya" which was a large balcony looking out to Moraira, with sofas, and a dining table. We spent many an evening with a vino rosado and a meal, admiring the view and the sunset and wondering if we could ever afford to retire there!
We love Moraira, which has two gorgeous beaches and lovely family-friendly restaurants, and have been three times to stay. Casa Aliber has been our absolute favourite place to stay.
